For 2018, Victoria’s Secret Angels, supermodels, and new faces alike grace the stage in New York with as much vivacity and cheer as years gone by. If you can’t wait to watch the show when it goes to air on December 2, scroll every runway look here.
Despite last year’s record low views, the brand’s falling market share and the ongoing debate as to whether Victoria’s Secret is still relevant in the current social climate of female empowerment and #MeToo, the annual fashion show born out of the ’90s ‘sex sells’ prognosis still manages to get tongues wagging ahead of the festive season. And we mean that in a totally none male-gaze way, of course.
Tracing every detail from what was worn to castings, which models were chosen, who’s returning, who’s performing and where the show will take place, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show continues to deliver that same dose of indulging dopamine we get when we Netflix-binge or scroll Instagram into the early hours. Besides, in the modelling world, Victoria’s Secret is still a big deal. Take local It-girl Maia Cotton for example; the opportunity to walk in the show viewed by more than 190 countries is a dream come true for the 19-year-old brunette. As for Kiwi supermodel Georgia Fowler, strutting the catwalks of Victoria’s Secret would have opened countless doors that have led her to her climbing success. Now look at her, she’s crushing it as host on the debut season of Project Runway New Zealand.
Let’s talk about the 2018 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show
Returning to the ranks of angel status include Kendall Jenner, who made a comeback this year having been tied up in a conflict of interest in 2017, beloved Behati Prinsloo after a 3-year hiatus to have her two children, and Hungarian model Barbara Palvin. Swedish sweetheart Elsa Hosk dons the ‘Dream Angels Fantasy Bra’ designed by Atelier Swarovski and Josephine Skriver, Gigi Hadid and Devon Windsor showcase stunning hypnotic floral displays of the couture-style creations by Mary Katranzou.
Posted shortly after filming, Adriana Lima, 37, revealed via Instagram that 2018 would be her last show. Could this really mark the end of an era? And could the future of VS be secured with a few pages from the Savage x Fenty show led by Rihanna at New York Fashion Week earlier this year? Either way, the Show is 23-years deep and we’re unsure if we’re ready to ditch the pastime just yet.
