This year’s fashionable attire spoke to more than just style.

Each the red carpet arrivals at the Golden Globes epitomise some of the best looks in couture. Key trends are determined by a range of colourful and beautifully detailed gowns draped off the bodies of nominees and celebrities alike.

This year, however, the standout trend had already been determined, with the 75th annual red carpet event carrying an important message, with actresses and actors choosing to symbolically participate in the Times Up movement by wearing the colour black and/or Times Up pins designed by costume designer Arianne Phillips.

Launched by some of the biggest names in Hollywood, the Times Up campaign includes members such as Reese Witherspoon, Natalie Portman and Meryl Streep. The movement aims to take a stand against sexual harassment in the film industry following revelations of film producer Harvey Weinstein and others key members of the industry being accused of sexual misconduct.

“We wanted to stand up and do something for all people to say time’s up on discrimination, harassment and abuse in the work place,” says Reese Witherspoon.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the fashion industry has been quick to respond with many designers having to scrap designs and produce new dresses to match the demand for black couture.

And so with a limited colour palette this year, who do you think was the best dressed?
