10 gadgets digital #girlbosses can’t live without

29 November 2016

For the launch issue of Miss FQ, associate editor Phoebe Watt interviewed three kickass women absolutely killing it on the world wide web

From Emily Shorvon (founder and managing director of creative digital agency, Phantom), to Tee Twyford (head of content at luxury global beauty brand, Charlotte Tilbury) to FQ.co.nz’s very own digital editor, Kelly McAuliffe, our digital divas told us all about making it in the (let’s face it) male-dominated IT industry. And then (‘cos we are always looking to up our gadget game) we asked them to share their ride-or-die electronics. Spoiler alert: everyone still loves an iPhone.

Emily Shorvon, founder and managing director at Phantom

“It’s the most standard answer in the world but completely truthfully, I could not live without my iPhone (complete with a glow in the dark Phantom sticker permanently glued to the back). It is attached to my hand at all times and connects all my worlds together, not just in the practical sense where I’m running between Phantom’s HQ, Google’s offices and meetings around the city (and world I guess!). But also very much my work/personal life and my London/New Zealand life as well. That thing can speak for my life better than I ever could!”

Tee Twyford, head of content at Charlotte Tilbury

“Aside from my iPhone, which manages to contain a myriad of uses within one device…my Kindle and my Bose noise-cancelling headphones are both great ways to reclaim a little Tee-time away from the hustle and bustle of a busy open-plan office or the London commute. They’re also good allies on a long-haul trip back to New Zealand. The Kiwi in me also loves cooking, so my kitchen resembles a Kitchen-Aid showroom and I also love Sonos as a way of filling our home with music, all controlled by my phone (there goes that iPhone again).”

Kelly McAuliffe, digital editor at FQ.co.nz

“I definitely get excited about new gadgets but find that for every new thing I’ve tried (Hello Google Glass! Hello Jawbone UP!) I always end up resuming normal service. Right now I’m all about: iPhone 7 Plus, Sonos PLAY: 3 speaker, Apple Watch Series 2, Away suitcase with charging dock, Polaroid Zip Instant Photoprinter, and a good old Kindle. Let’s see which ones stick!”
