FQ picks: The mascaras we can’t live without

When it comes to mascara, we’re all searching for the holy grail.

Some of us are lucky and find our perfect lash match early on, while others keep hunting, certain a new formula or new brush will give us the eyelashes we’ve always dreamed about.

Team FQ is a mixed bunch of mascara loyalists and hunters – here, we round up our current favourites:

Dior Diorshow Mascara

“For as long as I can remember, Diorshow mascara by Dior has been my all-time favourite – it was probably one of the first luxury beauty products I bought and I have been addicted to it ever since. It gives a gorgeous, thick lash – almost like they’re false, they’re so long. All you need to do is sweep the giant brush over your lashes twice and you’re good to go.”
– Sally-Ann Mullin, editor

Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara

Clinique High Impact Curling Mascara was the mascara that officially made me ditch my eyelash curler. It grips with ease, curls to perfection and its tubing formula means it never ever runs, even in the surf.”
– Lucy Slight, features editor

Maybelline Lash Sensational Mascara

Lash Sensational Mascara is my current favourite, from mascara legends Maybelline. It’s super cheap as mascaras go (you can pick it up in the supermarket) and it’s great for lengthening and defining with a good dark pigment that doesn’t flake or rub. The shaped wand helps you get close to the lashes and sort of scoop or sweep lashes upward.  Of course lashes are nothing without a good eyelash curler! I give mine a quick blast with a hairdryer to heat it a bit before using, and hold on my lashes for a few seconds for a long lasting curl.”
– Megan Bedford, deputy and beauty editor

“My favourite mascara changes all the time but I love drug store mascaras and at the moment, it’s the Maybelline Lash Sensational. You have to wipe a bit of the excess product off but once you have, it’s the perfect combo of lengthening, separation and volume. It also holds a curl really well!”
– Tyla McKenzie, fashion and editorial assistant

Clinique Chubby Fattening Mascara
“I’ve tried a million mascaras over the years (well, it certainly feels that way) but I always seem to fall back on my trusty Maybelline Great Lash in Blackest Black. It’s cheap and cheerful and manages to lengthen and separate without clumping or crumbling. Tick, tick and tick. However, I have most recently become infatuated with Clinique’s Chubby Lash Fattening mascara and it’s giving Great Lash a run for its money. The oversized brush and small, stubby bristles lets you get in close to the base of the lash to plump them up nicely – perfect when you’re follicly challenged lash-wise like moi.”
– Kelly McAuliffe, digital editor

Lancome Grandiose Wide Angle Fan Mascara

“The OG Lancôme Hypnôse was my go-to for years. I worked my way through all the other versions (Doll Eyes, Drama, Star), and nothing could knock it off its throne. But then along came Lancôme Grandiôse Wide-Angle Fan Effect Mascara with its new-fangled, swan-necked wand and its equal (if not superior) quality formula and I’ve never looked back.”
