As much as we look forward to seeing all the new season collections from some of our favourite local designers, one of the best parts of fashion week is seeing what the fellow show punters are wearing to the various events and after parties. So much thought and preparation goes into this fast-paced, fashion-fuelled week, which is also true for our very own team, who began planning their outfits weeks in advance. Below, our editors take you through their daily outfit breakdowns and tell you exactly what they wore to the busiest week in New Zealand fashion.
Day one: What the FQ editors wore
Sarah Murray, editor-in-chief
I have an obsession with a twinset of anything as it makes getting ready in the morning so effortless. It’s for this exact reason that for day one I opted for a matching mini and jacket from Twenty Seven Names. I teamed this look with my Chanel slingbacks, Jasmin Sparrow oversized gold earrings, and a high ponytail. For the evening I was very fortunate to be gifted another twinset from Juliette Hogan’s latest collection – this time it was a cream mini with a matching blazer which I wore with one of my trusty Juliette Hogan silk cami’s. To finish off the look I put on my favourite La Tribe ‘Sloane’ boot which are in a sleek croc.

In keeping with my borrowed-from-the-boys personal style, my first outfit made use of pieces in my typical rotation with a few festive elevations (it is fashion week, after all). The key items being an oversized striped shirt by Camilla & Marc under a mens R.M. Williams leather jacket, a midi-length black skirt by Ricochet, nude Alohas boots and Bono-meets-Jack-Nicholson eyewear by Moscot. These sunglasses were on loan from Showroom 22 but I’m very reluctant to give them back. Oh, and my vintage crocodile leather purse I inherited from my dear Nan.

My first look felt fittingly exuberant, given it was the first day of NZFW and my first-ever fashion week as a media attendee rather than a model. I opted for a full Maggie Marilyn suit – complete with matching pink and white pinstripe blazer and pants and a white baby tee. I coordinated it with a pair of pointed-toe pumps from Tony Bianco, my beloved Jasmin Sparrow earrings (which Sarah also has!) and a white Deadly Ponies bag which I was kindly loaned from the team at Showroom 22. For the night, I changed into my timeless black Ruby pants, a pinstripe bodice from Friend of Audrey, my Maison Margiela tabi boots, my shaggy fur trim jacket and Meadowlark’s luminescent orb earrings.
Day two: What the FQ editors wore

Having recently seen the lookbook for Ruby I’d loved the way they’d teamed pants with a dress – so I followed suit. I teamed their light blue Jupiter mini dress (which has a slight pinstripe to it) with matching pants. I then teamed it with one of my most worn items in my wardrobe – my navy Maggie Marilyn blazer and cream heels. Later that day I changed into an absolutely incredible mini and blazer from Maggie Marilyn. The Love Will Lead You Home blazer is an absolute showstopper – pink and gold checks make such a statement – particularly when teamed with the mini. This is the perfect ‘special occasion’ fit.

It was another crisp, cool morning today so warmth was front of mind. In terms of the fashion week programme, today was probably the most relaxed with a steady stream of up-and-comer shows and lesser known designers so I took a few styling liberties. Today I wore boxy denim co-ordinating straight leg jean and jacket combination by Kowtow (their denim truly is a cut above) with Axel Arigato ‘Marathon Runners’, the Jacquemus ‘Le Chiquito’ mini leather tote, and my hammered-to-death Prada sunglasses. To add the final touch, I wore some custom gold heart and pearl earrings my friends had made for my birthday.

I switched gears on day two to a slightly grungier fit, donning a mini skirt and jacket ensemble from Beach Brains which I paired with a baby pink Wynn Hamlyn top of mine. I wanted to give my feet a rest for a few hours, so I stepped into my trusty (and surprisingly comfortable) croc-skin boots from Merchant and accessorised with my pint-sized Georgia Jay bag and Meadowlark star earrings for a bit of oomph. Since we were heading to Kathryn Wilson in the evening, I wanted to make sure I fit the mood, so I booked it home and changed into my pink Wynn Hamlyn Zoe mini dress, a pair of complementary hot pink Scarpa heels, Meadowlark orb earrings and a beaded bag I purchased second hand.
Day three: What the FQ editors wore
Sarah Murray, editor-in-chief
Having worn heels for most of NZFW I thought it was time to move to flats. To make this work I wore some Ruby wide leg trousers from Ruby with a matching corset top. I dressed this ensemble down with a casual Blanca shirt which I wore unbuttoned, and my New Balance trainers. That night I went back to heels (by Nelson Made), but still kept a slightly casual vibe wearing Camilla and Marc pants, a commoners singlet and a beautifully finished Camilla and Marc trench coat. It felt incredibly comfortable but ultra stylish too.

There was a vision for my day three outfit, but alas my intuition prevailed and I subbed in what I felt like wearing which included a few item repeats. Channelling my penchant for Scandinavian style, I wore a sweater vest I got when I was in Copenhagen last year with current season Kowtow bermuda-style shorts, my nude Alohas boots, my Georgia Jay bag and a dark green Anine Bing coat for warmth (not pictured). It was very loe key, but hey – if the shoe fits! For the evening, I switched into a Wynn Hamlyn black tee, an oversized Gregory check blazer, slipped into some Aeyde heels and emptied my handbag’s contents into an olde Brie Leon beaded bag.

Having somehow worn more pink for the first two days than I think I ever have in my life (Sarah and I were twinning in this regard) I thought it was time to dial it back for the final day and wear the colour I like to wear the most: black. I recently purchased this uber-cute, structured and sexy blazer dress from Anna Quan which I opted to wear with a pair of Ganni crochet pants and grunged it up with my Maison Margiela tabi’s once again. I re-wore my Georgia Jay baguette bag and Jasmin Sparrow earrings and rocked this look from dawn to dusk. It felt like the perfect fit to round off a memorable, exhausting three days.
