Victor Henao

Victor Henao is one of the most sought-after makeup artists in the world right now.

Well known for his ability to transform any woman with his authentic and innovative style, Victor is Kendall Jenner’s lead makeup artist for Estée Lauder at key shoots and also works with brand spokesmodels including Joan Smalls, Carolyn Murphy and Gabriella Wilde.

In New Zealand last week for a short few days, Fashion Quarterly was lucky enough to not only nab some of Henao’s precious time to work with us on a shoot for our upcoming winter issue, but he also joined the Fashion Quarterly team for a special event at Britomart’s Spark Lab. FQ’s editor Sally-Ann Mullin hosted the exclusive evening.

Guests were treated to bubbles and canapés, before a fascinating Q&A session with Henao took place. The Estée Lauder director of global makeup design created looks using Estée Lauder’s new Sumptuous Knockout Collection.

Victor also created three stand-out makeup looks on the night, including the Ultimate Knockout look as seen on Kendall Jenner in the Estée Lauder Knockout campaign.

To recreate the Ultimate Knockout look Victor created on our model Sakura (below right), follow Victor’s step-by-step guide below:

SKIN

  1. The secret to a great make up look is great skin, so make sure you prep your face with your favourite moisturiser and repair serum.
  2. Apply a flawless longlasting foundation. Victor loves Double Wear Liquid to Go as it blends so easily.
  3. Continue preparing for the look by defining your eyebrow and adding bronzer and lip balm.

EYE

  1. Start your smokey eye by lining the eye with Double Wear Infinite Waterproof Eyeliner in Kohl Noir on the inner waterline and upper lashline.
  2. Create your smokey effect with Limited Edition Super Noir Eye Shadow and Liner all over the lid.  Blend out with the Estée Lauder Concealer Brush -5.  It’s flat, which makes it easy to apply and move product.
  3. Continue to create your look with the Pure Color Envy Palette in Savage Storm – each shade is numbered to make creating a smokey eye simple. Start with the darkest colour, #5, and apply with your flat brush onto the lid & the crease. To blend use a round fluffy brush like Estée Lauder Blending Shadow Brush- 25.
  4. Apply colours #3 and #4 onto the crease with the blending brush.
  5. Repeat everything on the lower lash line. Apply eyeliner inside and under the waterline and blend using colour #5.
  6. Finish with Little Black Liner applying as close as you can to the upper lash line to create the perfect smokey eye. Victor’s Top Tip: Use bronzer on the crease and under the eye to create dimension around the eye.
  7. Complete the Smokey Eye with generous coatings of Sumptuous Knockout Mascara.

LIP

  1. Finish the look with a bold lip.
  2. Apply Victor’s favourite nude lip liner Double Wear Lipliner in Spice.
  3. Then apply Pure Color Envy Lipstick in Carnal or for a high shine look, Pure Color Envy Gloss in Wicked Apple.

CHEEK

  1. Finish with Pure Color Envy shade Lovers Blush and Bronze Goddess Bronzer to top off your look.
