We live in the digital age so most of us have heard how blue light from our devices can upset our sleep cycles and circadian rhythms. But what about our skin?
Experts are now saying it’s not enough to wear sunscreen each day to protect us from UVA and UVB rays—we should also be protecting our skin from the effects of blue light from our computers and phones. Blue light exposure can lead to a whole host of issues—pigmentation, wrinkles, redness, and dullness—in short, it’s a fast-track route to premature aging.
So, what can be done? We look at four skincare products which specifically target the effects of blue light. To find out even more, view a replay (below) of our Instagram live with Mecca skincare education lead Lucy Connell which covers all things blue light exposure and effecs.
Chantecaille Blue Light Protection Hyaluronic Serum
Ideal as a booster under serum or moisturiser, this one can be applied morning and night. However, to make sure you get the most of it, always apply in the morning so it works throughout the day when you are most heavily exposed to blue light.
Dr. Barbara Sturm Anti-Pollution Drops
Here’s a lightweight formula which can be mixed into your moisturisers or other serums to boost your skin’s defence against pollution and blue light emitted from electronics.
Susanne Kaufmann Blue Light Defence & Moisturising Mist
Newly released Blue Light Defence & Moisturising Mist is an anti-ageing facial mist that also protects against the harmful digital influences we come across each day. Spray generously over the face and allow it to absorb into the skin. This one has a unique scent of freshly laundered linen that will keep you going back for more.
ILIA Blue Light Mist
A vegan-friendly, weightless 3-in-1 hydrating facial mist that helps to protect skin against blue light. It can also be used to set make-up and features a calming lavender scent.
