Five spring trends we’re embracing right now

Warmer, sunnier days are just around the corner, and to celebrate we're refreshing our wardrobe with these must-try trends.

It’s official – spring is here and we’re ready to shed the merino layers, oversized coats, and boots, and move into something a little more skin baring. Fear not – we don’t need to go all Y2K low-rise jeans/crop tops to embrace the warmer weather. In fact, some hemlines look like they might be heading downwards.

Here are our top five trends to embrace this season.

1. The Tank

Is there a more versatile piece in your wardrobe than the humble white tank top? Dress it up with an embellished skirt for the evening or a pair of your favourite jeans and you’re good to go. Our pick? Prada’s logo-embossed reinvented offering of the item (which you’ll see gracing the pages of Fashion Quarterly’s new issue.)

Prada Ribbed knit jersey tank top, $1,520.

Anine Bing Eva Tank, $155.

2. The Ballet Flat

Last seen on the feet of style icons such as Kate Moss in the early naughties, ballet flats are making a welcome revival on the catwalk of late. The extremely practical slip on shoe is a welcome reprieve from boots and it must be said, has a certain Parisian cool girl vibe making it the perfect way to look effortlessly chic. Get ready for some toe cleavage!

Miu Miu Logo Band Ballet Flat, $1,617.17.

Repetto Cendrillon Ballerinas Flat, $401

3. Out-there Neon

Is there no end to getting that hit from dopamine dressing? It seems not. If anything colour is getting punchier than ever as we see the rise of the neons. But it’s not just bold block colours that we’re seeing, it’s playful prints and patterns in a kaleidoscope of colour too.

Aje Amour Ruffle Mini Dress, $800.

Ruby Dime Silk Midi Dress, $299.

4. Longer length skirts

While the mini has made a resurgence this past year (thanks to that Miu Miu micro mini) some of you will be pleased to know longer hemlines are on the horizon. Anything knee-grazing and below (think midi or maxi) is the length du jour making it the perfect partner for the aforementioned white tank top. In fact, while you’re at it, add some ballet flats too.

Marle Eva Skirt, $300.

Rixo Kelly Satin Red Pansy Skirt, $450, from Muse Boutique

5. Crochet & Cut Outs

At this point most of us are over the body-baring cut-outs we’ve seen, well, everywhere. This season fashion seems to be taking it back a notch and going for smaller, more subtle cut outs. Think smaller crochet style holes which will be revealing but subtle.

Christopher Esber Sleeveless Crochet Polo, $695, from Muse Boutique.

Paris Georgia Criss Cross Singlet, $490
