Our #fitspo girl crush Kirsty Godso gives us the lowdown on getting our health into gear, our workout wardrobe in order and our body into shape, ahead of the Nike Training Club Live AKL on March 19.

We want to be the healthiest version of ourselves. How can we achieve that?
The key thing is finding some routine and making a commitment to yourself and your training and putting in your best efforts to stick to it. That means committing to both the good and the bad, the early morning alarms, the sore days, the rainy days and so on! An important part of routine is also listening to your body and knowing when to push it a little harder and when to take a rest day.

If you could work out with the ultimate girl squad, who would you invite?
My NTC Auckland squad are my ultimate girl squad because they’re so committed and always up for anything! If we were to add anyone into the mix though I’d love to have Allyson Felix and Skylar Diggins as they’re two of my favourite female athletes who are always doing really amazing drills in their training.

What items should everyone have in their capsule active wear wardrobe?
It’s well known I’m a big Nike Pro short fan and I think everyone should own some of these! Switch it up with some training tights too, with a good mix of staple blacks and bold prints. I usually like to add colour to my workout outfits with my bra – my go to colour is Volt, the brighter the better! I truly believe you should have a variety of training shoes to cater to the different styles of workouts you do, training in the right footwear is incredibly important. Then no outfit is complete without the perfect Nike Sportswear hood or jacket to take you in and out of the gym… even if the jacket is only ever tied around your waist!

Keeping motivated day in and day out can be tough. What songs never fail to get you off your butt?
I’m a hip hop girl for sure so expect to find a lot of Kanye, Drake, Future and Kendrick on high rotation in my playlists. I’m always updating my music with new tracks then there are the staple favourites that can pull me out of any slump which are:

The Fire by The Roots
This Way by Dilated Peoples
All of the Lights by Kanye West

Normally we’d ask someone what is in their handbag, but what’s in your gym bag?
Gym bags are the new handbags really though, right? I always have a spare pair of Nike Pro shorts, my favourite Nike Sportswear hoody, Beats by Dre wireless headphones, my iPhone, sweat towel, deodorant, protein powder and water.

We are so envious of your long, healthy hair! Can you give us some insight into how you take care of it when you are constantly working up a sweat?
It is quite the weapon when I’m flying around doing tuck jumps and burpees but I do love my power pony! I wash my hair every second day with Kevin Murphy Young Again products then I try not to blow dry or straighten my hair too much. Luckily my hair is naturally straight so I can let it dry freely. I’m also a big fan of braids which are a great way to lock your hair down so you can really focus on your training. Also ideal that you can leave them in for a couple of days, the messier the better!

What are your beauty and wellness tips for travelling?
Water! Always keep up your water intake when you’re travelling. A big part of jetlag is dehydration so try and reduce that as much as you can by drinking a lot of water and I also like to up my Vitamin C a few days around flying so I have extra protection. I am a big moisturizer fan so will often use Kiehl’s Skin Rescue when I fly. Other than that I try and stick to my regular routine from home which also takes into account my eating. When you travel to different countries it is often a combination of the food, air and water that can affect your skin and how you’re feeling overall so be adventurous with your eating but without throwing all routine out the window and generally stick to bottled water.

What’s the best advice you’ve been given, and from who?
A very special someone once told me… Nobody has the authority to author your future like you do. So you must author it. Plunge headfirst into your dreams. Commit to them and obsess over them – every day!

Describe your off-duty style…
Even off duty my look is very sports oriented. I like to wear denim shorts or jeans with a loose Alexander Wang singlet and one of my favourite Nike or Calvin Klein bras. I am a total sneakerhead so choosing what shoes to wear is always my struggle point! I love Nike Air Huaraches, Air Max Thea’s and Flyknit Air Force 1’s just to name some of my top pairs. Then I’ll top my outfit off with a Nike Sportswear hoodie or one of my leather jackets or bombers. You will rarely spot me in a dress or heels!

Which eatery at home do you miss while you’re away? What’s your go-to order?
Odette’s! My favourite place for breakfast and coffee in New Zealand. I can never go past the Odette’s Complete which they kindly let me customize a little so I have scrambled eggs with spinach, avocado, tomato and fresh chili. Hands down the best breakfast ever and the staff are so lovely.

What advice would you give to those wanting to take part in the Nike Training Club classes but haven’t taken tried them before and are unsure if they’ll be fit enough?
The best way to get started is to do just that – START! All of our workouts are formatted so that girls of any fitness level can join at any time and get a great sweat that is at the right level for them. It is a really friendly vibe so there is no need to be intimidated! We burpee hard and we laugh harder, it really is so much fun you won’t even notice how many tuck jumps you’re doing.

What do you love about NTC?
NTC is such a great way to train because it includes a wide variety of training styles whilst being centered around functional training. This is important because it means you are learning to move properly and more functionally for how you need to in everyday life. We work on strength, high-intensity, toning, stretching and balance. The workouts are always different which keeps it fun and challenging and it is such a supportive and fun community to be part of. We turn up for each other as much as we do for the workouts!

If you could only do one NTC workout for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
Zoom Fast obviously – non biased of course!
