There’s only one fashion film we’re excited about right now.
After Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson almost broke the internet for real when they gatecrashed the Valentino show in character as Derek Zoolander and Hansel McDonald, anticipation for Zoolander 2 is high. So just what do we know about the upcoming sequel?
1. Cara Delevingne, Kanye West and Anna Wintour are rumoured to have cameos
Rumours have been swirling since last year about which fashion names will make an appearance in the film. Cara and Anna were both photographed with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson (in character) backstage at Paris Fashion Week and other fashionable names have been attached to the project at various stages, including Kanye West, Suki Waterhouse and Karlie Kloss.
2. Biebs and Benedict Cumberbatch will definitely feature
Justin Bieber and Benedict Cumberbatch are both in the trailer. And from what we’ve seen, their appearances definitely look memorable!
3. Derek and Hansel are Europe-bound
The frenemies have been seen filming in Paris by the Eiffel Tower along with their much-publicised appearance in Valentino’s show during Paris Fashion Week. In the trailer, they are also seen zooming around Rome, past iconic landmarks such as the Colosseum and Il Vittoriano monument.
4. Mugatu will be back
Will Ferrell will reprise his villainous role in the sequel.
5. Jennifer Aniston’s hubby Justin Theroux wrote the script
We were surprised to hear this, too. Until we recalled his cameo in the original 2001 film (he was the DJ at the fashion show whose music brainwashes Derek) so his involvement suddenly makes a whole lot bit more sense.
6. The film fast-forwards to the present day with Derek and Hansel past their use-by date.
Stiller was quoted in 2010 saying: “I think the idea in the beginning of the movie is that it’s 10 years later, and Derek and Hansel are literally forgotten. Nobody remembers who they are, so they have to reinvent themselves.”
The official worldwide release date for Zoolander 2 is 12 February 2016.
