Texan beauty Eva Longoria had a crew of Kiwi stylists to attend to her hair and makeup during her recent three-day visit to New Zealand to launch the Shopping channel. Among the local expertise on hand was L’Oréal Paris makeup director Lisa Matson. Here are Lisa’s backstage tips on how to get Eva’s flawless look.
How would you describe Eva’s makeup look for the Woman’s Day cocktail party?
Smouldering. It was all about the eyes – smokey and intense with luscious lashes.
What products did you use?
I used the L’Oréal Paris Lumi Magique range of primer, foundation and highlighter on her skin. I then contoured and highlighted her stunning features with the Glam Bronze Duo and Trio bronzers, followed by True Match Blush in Nude Brown.
On Eva’s eyes I blended a combination of L’Oréal Paris Color Appeal Chrome Shine in Platinum Beige, Open Eyes Pro in Plum Harmony, Color Appeal Trio Pro in Chocolate Addiction, Infallible Eyeshadow in Endless Chocolate and Burning Black as well as Superliner Gel Intenza and Lash Architect 4D mascara on her lashes.
On the lips I applied Colour Riche Lipstick in Nude plus a gloss combo of Glam Shine 6HR Volumizer in Everlasting Melon and Mocha Obsession.
Her skin looked flawless, yet almost makeup free. What techniques did you use when applying foundation?
Prior to applying foundation I enhanced Eva’s skin with Youth Code Luminosity Moisturiser and Lumi Magique Primer. I then applied the foundation with a standard flat foundation brush using long broad strokes to distribute product evenly over her face. I then patted on product in areas where I wanted extra coverage, resulting in perfectly blended and flawless looking skin. I also rotated a buffer brush lightly over her face to refine my application that little bit more.
What colours did she request?
Eva was happy to leave colour selection to me so I based my colours around what she was wearing and what would enhance her skin tone and eye colour. For the party I blended a combination of shades in bronze, berry and black for her eyes and complemented this with a golden nude lip.
Her trademark look is her long thick lashes. Any mascara application tips she likes?
She likes to have the mascara wand zig-zagged up under her lashes and fanned to give maximum length and definition. Of course three coats was mandatory.
Did she have any requests?
Her only request was for me to be generous with the makeup. Her reference to Texan women loving makeup with a ‘more is more’ ethos gave me all the info I needed to create makeup looks she would be happy with.
