There is something about the addition of a well-chosen pair of earrings that elevates an outfit from good to great. While traditionally many of us think length is the most important factor when choosing statement earrings, we’re here to tell you that’s no longer the case.
Think pearls, jewels, textures, and contemporary shapes when searching for the perfect pair. If you need a little nudge in the right direction, take a look at some of our favourites of the moment below.
An updated version of the classic gold hoop is exactly what we’ll be investing in this season. Made from 24K gold-plated brass, these ones can get a little heavy on the earlobe (each earring weighs 18grams) but if you can handle that, then we say give them a go. The hexagonal shape and textured finish mean they’ll go with almost any outfit too.
Christie Nicolaides Isola Hoops Gold, $313.99.
When something has been created with pave set diamonds, emeralds and turquoise you know it’s going to be something special – and these stunning earrings certainly don’t disappoint. We absolutely adore the elegance of the rose gold and jewel drop shape of these earrings which have an otherworldly, yet regal feel of yesteryear to them.
Emerald Turquoise Drop Earrings from Partridge Jewellers, POA.
These Aztec-inspired earrings from the 1970s will wow when combined with a simple up-do. What we like best about this offering (that were sourced from a private collection in Texas) is that they’re also discrete enough to wear during the day paired with a cashmere knit.
Vintage Companies Dallas Earrings from Love and Object, $329.
We spied these on a fashion shoot this week and haven’t stopped thinking about them since. The juxtaposition of the spikes set against the perfect roundness and classic-appeal of the pearl just seems to work. Plus, we can’t help but think they resemble some kind of mediaeval weapon – meaning you’ll definitely be ready to go into battle (if need be!) in these.
Karen Walker Forbidden Drop Earrings in silver, $779.
A stunning pair of vintage earrings by renowned jewellery designer Les Bernard whose creations are sought after around the world. This pair delights the eye with the divine combination of black lucite, and an intricate (almost leaf-like) brass detailing.
Les Bernard earrings from Love and Object, $529.
We’ve had our eyes on these for a while. The ridges of the fan, which sits securely on the lobe of the ear, seem to playfully contrast the smooth and non-uniform shape of the freshwater pearl. This pair will definitely bring decadence to every outfit.
Meadowlark Vita Drop Earrings in silver, $515.
Statement earrings don’t necessarily need to mean big and dangly, and these single baroque pearl offering are a good example of that. The conical limpet inspired setting absorbs the earlobe in a unique way that may see you wearing them day and night.
Jasmin Sparrow Bernique Earrings in Gold, $850.
Dainty and delicate these hooped earrings with a single black teardrop bead will add just enough charm to any outfit. Plus, because of their design, they give a great swinging motion when worn.
The Ophelia Hoop Earring from Ruby, $39.
Now you’ve got your hands on your dream earrings here’s what you should be wearing them with this season.
