This was a wardrobe malfunction just waiting to happen.
Chrissy Teigen rocked up to the American Music Awards with a split literally to her armpit, held tentatively in place with a gold safety pin – and in doing so, broke a world record we didn’t even know existed until now.
The 30-year-old model, who was accompanying singer husband John Legend to the awards, somehow she managed to keep her modesty mostly in check throughout the evening. However, at times it was a bit touch-and-go on the red carpet, and she attempted to cover herself with her Monique Lhuillier clutch.
The Yousef Akbar dress certainly got tongues wagging and a few Twitter trolls worked up, with one tweeting: “Underwear-free @chrissyteigen what happened to being a lady? #SMH”
Chrissy isn’t one to suffer fools gladly and her response was typically Teigen-esque: “I was walking. It floated. It’s over. I can’t take it back. Here is a formal apology. What else would you like?”
Previous contenders for thigh-high recognition? Bella Hadid’s racy red number at Cannes this year; Kendall Jenner’s hip-exposing Fausto Puglisi dress in 2014 and of course, Angelina Jolie and her leg wearing Versace in 2012.
