Designer Wardrobe has partnered with Max to launch Sell Later, an innovative initiative that allows Max online shoppers to opt-in to resell the items at a later date on Designer Wardrobe’s pre-loved marketplace.
Designed to address the sustainability challenges that plague the fashion industry, Sell Later caters to the increasing consumer demand for sustainable fashion options. For both brands, it’s a win-win: the service will support Max’s efforts to become a more responsible business and achieve its sustainable sourcing goals; and Sell Later aligns with Designer Wardrobe’s vision to be a leader in driving sustainability initiatives within the New Zealand fashion industry.
“We are both on our sustainability journey, and really believe that involves the New Zealand fashion industry coming together to drive change. As an online platform enabling our members to safely buy and sell pre-owned fashion online, we are able to offer Max, a retailer, a weightless way to join the resale economy,” says Designer Wardrobe CEO Aidan Bartlett.
For Max/Barkers Group Brand Lead, Jen Mann, launching Sell Later with Designer Wardrobe helps their brand close the loop and implement circular principles.
“The end of life of our garments is a critical component of our sourcing strategy and partnering with Designer Wardrobe means we are one step closer to finding circular solutions for our customers right from the outset of when they shop with us,” says Mann.
With this innovative concept, Designer Wardrobe and Max are changing the way people think about fashion and encouraging consumers to make lasting change by shopping sustainably.
“We have a very conscious customer, who is always looking for ways to shop more responsibly, and we’re committed to providing them with solutions every step of the way,” continues Mann.
“With Sell Later integrated into our website (and store purchases), customers can now resell their preloved Max items when they are ready to part with them – Sell Later is an easy to use platform that puts the control back in our customers’ hands, and empowers them to make sustainable choices, which we know they value.
As consumers become increasingly aware of the impact of their purchasing decisions on the environment, the launch of Sell Later provides a valuable opportunity for them to make more conscious and sustainable choices. By selling their pre-loved Max clothing items on Designer Wardrobe, customers can extend the life cycle of their clothing and reduce waste, while also earning some extra cash.
“We are able to use our specialty as an online fashion marketplace to provide a seamless and user-friendly pathway for Max to enter the resale industry, expanding their offerings and convenience to customers who want to buy and sell pre-owned clothing,” adds Bartlett.
For the Max customer, it’s a simple and easy process – there is no need to seek out images, take photos of the garments at home, or search for product details as this information is all captured right at the time of purchase. “It allows them to instantly be an active member in the circular economy – we’ve had such a positive response since launching, with over 1,000 Max pieces added through Sell Later on DW – ready for a second life. That’s a win for circularity,” says Mann.
