D & M hair design in Ponsonby is my go-to salon for a cut and colour, and it was no surprise when stylist Danny Pato told me he’d been invited to work backstage at NY fashion week with Moroccanoil. He heads off in three weeks to work alongside designers such as Caroline Herrera, Vera Wang, Cavalli, Nina Ricci. I’ll keep you posted on the backstage antics and his predictions on the latest hot hair trends. Until then, here are his best tips on caring for your hair this summer.
What is the one on-trend look anyone can master for summer?
“Before you go to bed, wash your hair. Then apply a leave-in conditioner, part your hair where you like it and braid it – you don’t have to be fussy about being perfect. In the morning, take the braids out, scrunch through a sea salt spray (try Davines Wizards No.14) and you’re a beach babe princess! To make this look a little more casual, you can twist up your fringe around the side of your head and pin at the back.
How do you control summer frizz, when the temperature rises?
“Moroccanoil is frizz control in a bottle! It’s a must for all those prone to frizz, whether your hair is normal, dry, curly or straight. A little goes a long way to eliminate frizz and control static in any weather. Just spray a couple of pumps through your hair when it’s damp and style as usual. It’s a miracle product.”
What is the one product you must have for summer?
“Davines Natural Tech Wellbeing Destress Lotion. It’s a spray that gives hair body as well as protection, thanks to the UV filters. Perfect, for spraying in the hair and all over the body at the beach or by the pool. And it smells delicious.”
What is your best summer styling tip?
“Always use thermal protection before you use any heated tool (hair dryers, irons, tongs etc). When you’re exposed to that level of heat and humidity, use a good leave-in conditioner and a product that contains UV protection to help reduce damage, dryness and colour fade. Covering up with a hat is a fabulous way to block the sun’s damaging rays.”
