Jess

The Hollywood Glam collection comprising of all pearls inspired Jess’s design. Looking to a black silk satin, Jess wanted to utilise the reflective properties of the fabric to make the pearls pop.

Judges’ comments:

Sally-Ann: “It looks like something you’d see at an event, but it’s unexpected and interesting. It did, however, look like there were a few mobility issues on the runway.”

Benny: “The back is the winner of this dress.”

Georgia: “I’ve never seen anything like this and it does showcase the jewellery by offsetting and complimenting one another.”

Ladi6: “Originally I didn’t like this dress – but it’s a slow burn. The more you look at it, the more you love it.”

Benjamin

Black pearls were the inspiration for Benjamin’s design this week. In a bid to create something sexy, black and slinky, Benajmin’s chose a high shine black sequin fabric for his gown featuring a deep v neckline halter with a super thin strap, and a dropped waist skirt with large flounce.

Judges’ comments:

Sally-Ann: “It’s perfect – but it’s not challenging my mind.”

Benny: “What this dress does is it reinvents the familiar and that’s very difficult and intelligent. The only thing that could let him down is he may have played it a little bit safe.”

Georgia: “It’s a bit funky but still so flattering. And I love that you’ve paired it with boots.”

Ladi6: “There’s a ‘90s grunge vibe to it that I really dig. It looks crazy incredible.”

Judy

An Amethyst jewellery design inspired Judy’s gown comprising of an intricate pattern, boning and lots of lines. (But let’s be real; the real winner here is that makeup!

Judges’ comments:

Sally-Ann: “Judy, you really are the gown queen. It’s immaculate. It just sashayed down the runway.”

Benny: “The boning and the bodice is what makes this gown special.”

Ladi6: “The dress alone is beautiful and whimsical, but by adding the layer of boning makes it super modern.”

Kerry

Inspired by a geometric cage holding a loose stone, Kerry decided to create a gown mirroring this design almost literally.

Judges’ comments:

Sally-Ann: “I think this look has a really good idea but it has execution issues.”

Benny: “There needs to be more, but less. It hasn’t matched up.”

Georgia: “You really have met the brief on this one.”

Ladi6: “I can see it going into like a Beyoncé direction but some of the caging coming out at the waist is not flattering. It’s kind of wearable art”

Peni

Inspired by the royal jewellery which features high shine silver and sapphire blue stones, Peni decided to develop a design that was soft and delicate as though it were bound for a ball.

Judges’ comments:

Sally-Ann: “I’m all for asymmetry but I don’t think for this occasion, placing it across the bust is appropriate or flattering.”

Benny: “I commend you for trying to achieve that effortless elegance, but it hasn’t worked this time.”

Georgia: “My concern is that I’ve seen this too many times.”

Caitlin

The jewellery collection setting the tone for Caitlin’s design was called ‘entwined’ – featuring layers of gold circles. This movement and playfulness inspired Caitlin’s decision to create a wide-legged jumpsuit with fringing.

Judges’ comments:

Sally-Ann: “I would have preferred to see a significantly lower back – it would have been much sexier. With this fabric, it looks a little day time, and a little cheap.”

Benny: “I love a sexy lampshade. White in this instance doesn’t work. It was a misstep.”

Georgia: “I agree an evening look doesn’t mean gown, but your fabric choice has let you down here.”

Ladi6: “I wrote down ‘more tassels please.’ I’m not a huge fan of the shape – but I love that you didn’t do a dress. That’s rad.”
