These stylish individuals have the best summer capsule wardrobes (and we’re taking notes)

We talk to three tastemakers about the art of creating sustainable summer capsule wardrobes with COS' new collection.

COS' latest caption blends bold and neutral tailoring and colour schemes.

Challenging traditional ideas of what a ‘sustainable wardrobe’ should look like, COS’s spring/summer ’22 collection is a solid example of how recycled and traceable materials can also be expressive, enriching your everyday style.

In a clearing surrounded by native trees and luscious flora, three of Fashion Quarterly’s most stylish friends apply their individual sartorial approach to cultivate their summer capsule wardrobes.

For their latest campaign, COS tapped the shoulders of stylish leaders in their own right — Ash Owens, Ruby Hamilton, and Juno Jung — proving that their considered edit could seamlessly complement multiple personal styles.

Blending comfort and luxury, COS’ latest collection provides model and content creator Ash Owens an upbeat take on her signature minimalist tailoring.

“My personal style is very tailored, so I am absolutely in love with the dark green suit,” explains Ash.

“I can’t wait to style them this season with a white t-shirt and a black barely-there sandal. I am also a huge fan of the contrast between the white t-shirt blouse and the beige tailored trouser, those two pieces definitely encompass spring for me!”

A key focus for this collection centred on COS’ shift to a circular economy by increasing the use of recycled and traceable materials, and producing designs that will uphold for seasons to come. By pushing these boundaries, photographer and content creator Ruby felt empowered to experiment with unexpected shapes while holding true to her established colour palettes.

“I was drawn to how COS added a touch of drama and exaggeration to simple silhouettes in this collection,” says Ruby.

“Being on the shorter side, I am a big fan of adding volume and playing with scale in my wardrobe and liked being able to play with this in these pieces from COS while still keeping in the calm, neutral tones I am always so drawn to. For me, COS always seems to nail the basics in such an elevated way.”

As for those who feel at home transitioning between seasonal hues, COS included splashes of cyan and sunshine orange to boost the mood and attract the likes of model Juno who has embraced the collection to switch modes when relaxing this summer.

“Soft colour ways that blend in with the vibe of spring, relaxed yet modern fit that could easily turn me into a picnic boy from a city boy. I loved walking around the garden in the COS spring/summer collection,” says Juno.

Set in a garden in Auckland’s suburb of Mt Eden, COS’s spring/summer ’22 campaign feels relevant and relatable as we look ahead ready to embrace the future. “This collection is stunning, there is so much versatility in the colours, fabrics and cuts and everything looks so fresh, chic and elevated,” adds Ash.
