As the country’s National Museum, Te Papa houses multiple large scale and frequently changing exhibitions. Located on Wellington’s famously beautiful waterfront the museum covers 36,000 square meters of floor space so there’s plenty of room for exploring. A visit to Te Papa is a sure way to get a bit of culture when visiting the capital

On Now: Air New Zealand 75 Years (December 20th 2014 – July 26th 2015) this interactive exhibition chronicles the history of New Zealand’s favourite airline. From engineering innovation to the changing fashions of the uniforms, ‘Air New Zealand 75 Years’ has something for everyone.

Night Markets

The Wellington Night Markets kick off every Friday night and offer an impressive range of cuisines from around the globe. From Mexican to Chinese, Hungarian to Indian there’s something to tickle everyone’s taste buds. With live music and lights, the markets located on trendy Leftbank (just off Cuba St) are an exciting way to spend a Friday night.

The World of Wearable Arts is the fascinating annual show that takes art off the wall and out of static display and puts it onto the body. Attracting an audience of over 50,000 every year and with entries from budding designers across the globe, WOW is one show that is not to be missed. An experience like no other, this 2 hour theatrical performance is a sure jaw-dropper and always a sell out so get in quick for this unforgettable experience.

Library Bar

The perfect place to relax and unwind on a cold night, Library Bar boasts an eclectic menu of mouth-watering cocktails and abstruse wines. Decorated in classic library fashion, the bar is complete with sleek wooden shelving, stacked with leather bound books. With the kitchen open till the wee hours of the morning in case you’re feeling a little peckish, Library Bar is arguably the cosiest bar in the capital.

Water Front Walk – Post Office Square to Oriental Bay

The Wellington Waterfront Walk showcases one of the most beautiful harbours in the country. Allow at least an hour, maybe a little more if you want to stop off at one of the many bars, restaurants and cafes scattered along the way. From start to finish feast your eyes on the outstanding views of the ocean and the rolling hills during this picturesque walk and once you reach Oriental Bay, the view back across the water to the city is truly breath taking.

Play Shop Live at BATS Theatre

This improvised comedy is fast, unpredictable and has no limits. Completely spontaneous, one musician and four actors create theatre from thin air in this late-night comedy special. ‘,,side-splittingly funny” and “…an absolutely heartening and enjoyably energetic 60 minutes” ‘Play Shop Live’ is the perfect outing for a Friday night.
