Tunnel Beach

Tunnel Beach is located about 2 kilometres south of Dunedin and is home to some of the most incredible views in the country. Gaining its name from a passageway that was hand carved through the rock in the 1870s in order to access a secluded beach, the location is rich with history. The Tunnel Beach Walkway is an hour return walk and boasts incredible long distance views across the Dunedin coastline. Due to lambing season, the walkway is closed from 1st August – 31st October but throughout the rest of the year, attracts countless visitors.

Port Chalmers Seafood Festival

Approximately 15 minutes from central Dunedin you’ll find Port Chalmers, the seaside town set to host another annual Seafood Festival later this year on September 26th. The festival can be easily reached by boat or train and will showcase cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, live local music and much more. With guest chefs including Bevan Smith from Riverstone Kitchen and Greg Piner from Pier 24 – as well as Gibbston Valley providing specialty wines paired to match the delicious food on offer – the Port Chalmers Seafood Festival is the perfect way to welcome in the spring season.

Chinese Gardens

As the sister city of Shanghai, Dunedin has a strong Chinese heritage. The city’s Chinese Gardens are the only authentic Chinese Scholar’s Gardens in the entire Southern Hemisphere and perfectly encapsulate the tranquillity and beauty of nature. Changing with the seasons, the Gardens present something new each time you visit and are the perfect place take some beautiful photographs, drink tea or just relax.

Phantom of the Opera

This September, Dunedin’s Regent Theatre presents ‘The Phantom of the Opera’. The tragic love story is both romantic and chilling and is Broadway’s longest running hit show ever. Now in its 29th year, the classic story follows the love affair between future soprano star Christine and the deformed Phantom who haunts the Paris Opera House from his hollow, deep below. With incredible costumes, a renowned musical score and the famous falling chandelier, ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ is an exciting night of theatre not to be missed.
