Just like the return of 90s fashion – think scrunchies, combat boots and matching plaid mini skirt sets – one of the biggest music icons of the late 90s/early noughties is making a serious fashion comeback.
Britney Spears has become the new face of Kenzo’s La Collection Momento Spring 2018 collection after being approached by creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon. The announcement was made on Instagram with the brand creating a new hashtag #KenzoLovesBritney.
And before you even start to think “why Britney?” realise that this collection is all about nostalgia, which makes the singer the perfect choice. A tribute to the debut of Kenzo Jeans in 1986, this collection features a variety of iconic pieces that, with the queen of pop’s name behind it, will be sure to sell out stat.
Items in the collection include a cropped denim jacket, thigh-high lace-up denim boots and matching baseball hat. A bamboo tiger print (a print which Kenzo says displays the heritage of the house in an expression of east meets west) can be seen on a trench and matching hat. There’s even a cropped Kenzo tiger sweatshirt that is different but still reminiscent of that emerald green Kenzo sweater that took over street style five years ago.
Shot in Los Angeles by Peter Lindbergh, the collection brings out the playful side in the 36-year-old mum-of-two who’s said goodbye to the schoolgirl mini skirt, double denim and latex bodysuit-wearing days.
In a chat with Vogue Britney said, “this collection is very youthful. We had fun on set, even though it was a bit weird for me at first. I am used to shooting in a studio or a small space, and this was on the street.”
This marks the singer’s first campaign for a major high-end fashion brand.
