Cosmetic products are a definite go-to when you have a beauty issue and, of course, they work wonders. We’d never suggest you ditch your arsenal of assistants, but it’s also beneficial to keep in mind other things you could introduce to supercharge your skincare regimen. They might require a little more time than topical applications, but that’s a small price to pay for solutions that could take years off your appearance.

1. Ice Queen

Gently swiping ice cubes over the skin around your eyes will constrict your capillaries, helping to de-puff under-eye bags and improve the appearance of dark circles for a brightening effect. If you want to take this technique to the next level, fill a bowl with iced water and dunk your entire face in it for a few seconds at a time.

2. Facial Fitness

Some devotees swear by facial exercises as an effective way to enhance the contours of your visage. For best results, try a blend of massage and muscle stimulation to both stretch and strengthen your tissues. If you’d like a helping hand with your DIY, you could check out the FaceGym range at Mecca. We can recommend using the weighted face ball and gua sha tool to release tension, de-puff, lift, sculpt, firm lines and improve circulation. Alternatively, you could visit Tāmaki Makaurau/Auckland’s The Facialist for the famous Yoga Facial, an intensive massage that does the hard work for you.

3. Night shift

Catching some extra z’s may seem like an obvious answer, but it really does make a difference. Committing to seven to nine hours a night will give your body time to produce collagen and repair your skin while you slumber.

4. Cold Snap

If you’re game, turn the tap to cold before you get out of the shower. Cold water has been proven to increase circulation, and doubles as an excellent wake-up shake-up if you shower in the morning while promoting better sleep at night. Stay under the cool blast for 30 seconds if you can.

5. Free Drinks

Moisture is key to keeping your skin looking plump and youthful, and a free and easy hydration habit to create is to drink at least two litres of water per day. It’s simple, but your skin will thank you for it!

6. Hot Zone

Workouts and saunas that make us sweat have all kinds of benefits, including increasing blood circulation for a healthy glow. Sweating also assists with detoxification, plus sweat is believed to bind to bacteria, assisting its removal from the skin.
