Blake Lively’s 2018 Met Gala dress has already taken 600 hours to make

Blake Lively has frequented the Met Gala eight times in the last ten years, with each dress outshining the last.

But this year’s dress might top them all, if the latest insider details on her 2018 Met Gala gown is anything to go by.

Blake recently disclosed to Vogue that a mystery, as-yet-unnamed designer has “already worked on it for 600 hours, and they’re not done”.  So we can only imagine the level of detail that has already gone into the design and construction.

The theme for the 2018 Met Gala is “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”, where religious iconography will take centre stage, including 50 garments loaned from the Vatican. Eager fashionistas will recognise this theme, as it brings to mind previous looks from the archives of Dolce & Gabbana and Versace. Could either fashion house be Blake’s anonymous designer?

The down-to-earth star is one of the only actresses in Hollywood who doesn’t have a personal stylist and so she’s been present for the blood, sweat and tears in this year’s extensive designing process. Speaking to WWD, Blake confessed she loves design and loves fashion, so it comes as no surprise that this top-secret gown is her “favourite dress ever”.

Blake also let slip to WWD accessory designers Lorraine Schwartz and Christian Louboutin have glimpsed this heavenly dress and are designing custom jewellery and shoes to finish off the look.

While waiting for the Met Gala on 7 May, get nostalgic with all of Blake’s Met Gala looks so far:
