The Muslim model opens up

You might remember when Bella and Gigi Hadid protested POTUS Trump’s cotroversial immigration ban, back in January. The two supermodels, along with their mum Yolanda, held a handmade sign as they marched through downtown New York for No Ban No Wall.

Speaking afterwards to Elle.com, Bella spoke of her reasons for joining the march: “I come from a really diverse background. I’ve had incredible experiences all over the world… and I’ve learned that we’re all just people, and we all deserve respect and kindness. We shouldn’t treat people as if they don’t deserve kindness just because of their ethnicities. It’s just not right. And that message—to be compassionate whenever possible—that’s so important to me.”

Since first touching on the subject, the 20-year-old Muslim model has once again spoken out about how Trump’s immigration policy affects her, telling Porter magazine that her father, Mohamed Hadid “was a refugee when he first came to America. So [Trump’s immigration policy is] actually very close to home for my sister and brother and me.”

“He was always religious, and he always prayed with us,” she continued, talking about her father. “I am proud to be a Muslim.”
