In our ongoing series, stylish women reveal how they blend design, comfort and luxurious fabrics to create the ultimate private sanctuary…
MARIANNA GLUCINA
Director, About Face
What is your day job?
Founder and director of About Face, a chain of skincare clinics in Auckland. In addition to the spas, my brother and I are also the sole distributor of Pure Fiji in New Zealand.
Describe your personal style.
I don’t like to be boring and I’m not frightened of colour. I have a passion for designer shoes and always treat myself to a new pair when I’m travelling.
How does this translate to your bedroom?
It’s my work that has probably inspired my bedroom space the most. I like a clean and modern aesthetic, paired with the character elements of my Mt Eden villa. One of my evening rituals is to light a fragrant candle and transport myself into a spa environment. I’ve always found this one of the fastest ways to relax. A comfortable bed with plush cushions and crisp sheets is really important to me.
Where do you get your design inspiration?
I’ve visited some gorgeous spas overseas for work and I try to replicate that feeling you get when you walk into a relaxation zone and it’s time to switch off.
What do you love about your bedroom?
The bedroom is a sanctuary for me and a place to relax after a busy day. I love my polished floors and shutters that let in the natural light. I’ve finally renovated the ensuite and have gone for a dramatic black and white hotel-inspired theme.
Where do you shop for linen, soft furnishings and fragrance etc?
I love linen and furniture from French Country and Citta Design and I always enjoy their new-season looks. For an on-trend pop of colour, it has to be Republic Home. When it comes to a luxurious look, I can’t go past Italian brand Kartell for its clean, minimalistic approach. As for home fragrance – Pure Fiji of course!
Describe your bedroom style in three words.
Tranquil, fresh, modern.
What is always on your bedside table?
My journal with my personal goals, whatever novel I’m reading (currently it’s I am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes) and a fragrant candle.
