DEBBIE CAVIT
Director, Cavit & Co
What is your day job?
I own Cavit & Co with showrooms in Parnell and Arrowtown, so I’m lucky to be surrounded by beautiful things all day.
Describe your personal style.
Easy elegance in both my personal dress and in my interiors. I like tailored rather than deconstructed, simple rather than fussy. This certainly doesn’t mean traditional or old fashioned, but I do always try to select items that will stand the test of time.
How does this translate to your bedroom?
My home is a small villa in Parnell and I wanted to respect its period rather than try to turn a 105-year-old house into something contemporary. I’ve used fabulous grass paper on the walls to add texture, the bed is from McGuire, and the bedside tables, tall chest of drawers and armchair are Henredon designed by Barbara Barry.
Where do you get your design inspiration?
I have been involved with interior design for more than 25 years and have travelled the world extensively buying for our showrooms.
What do you love about your bedroom?
It is restful, the colours are muted blue and greys with the regency stripe silk curtains from Ralph Lauren as a soft accent in cream and gold. The tall drawers are fabulous – I can barely reach the top drawer without a stool.
Where do you shop for linen, soft furnishings and fragrance etc?
I am extremely lucky to have the opportunity of buying from some of the best manufacturers in the world. My bed linen is Frette from Italy, which has the most sumptuous cashmere blankets, goose down pillows and bed covers. Always buy the best bed linen you can afford – it is an experience you will never regret. The Duchess home fragrance collection from Ralph Lauren is also a personal favourite.
Describe your bedroom style in three words.
Elegant, restful, understated luxury.
What is always on your bedside table?
Good lighting so I can read at night, a selection of books and a glass of water. I also have fresh roses from my front garden and, I know I shouldn’t, but my phone.
