The green guide to natural and organic cosmetics
Teaming cosmetics with nature seems like an unexpected marriage, but there are more and more natural and organic options available and the desire to green our beauty routine continues to grow.

SKIN
Silky, soft and pressed, for those that want their minerals in a powder compact, you cannot find better than 1. Jane Iredale PurePressed Base SPF20, $95. There is also a full range of make-up in great fashion shades too.

NAILS
Perhaps the most difficult category in which to find a natural yet fashionable offering is nail enamel. 2. Zoya Professional Nail Lacquer, $26, a vegan nail polish, was the first to remove toxic ingredients such as toluene, formaldehyde and DBP (dibutyl phthalate). Another natural inspired nail colour is 3. Leighton Denny Expert Nails, $29 – they have only a trace of formaldehyde resin, but no toluene or DBP and the range of colours is very fashion forward.

EYES
The latest eye colours from The Body Shop are divine. 4. Colour Crush Eye Colour 415 Midnight Flirt, $21.50, offers depth of colour while being gentle on your eyes and the environment. High performance organic mascara used to be an oxymoron, until 5. Dr Hauschka Volume Mascara, $47. It grooms lashes with rose oil, wax and natural mineral pigments.

LIPS
6. Karen Murrell now owns this category with her faultless lipstick formulas – they feel luxurious thanks to the natural vegetable waxes, $30. We also love the 7. Jane Iredale Playon Lip Crayons, $42. For a balm, try 8. Burt’s Bees Vanilla Bean Lip Balm, $9, or 9. Go-To Lips Super Balm, $16.
