We spoke with Servilles Academy graduate and Servilles stylist Brooke Perreau about her cool career in hair.
How did you break into the hair industry?
“I got into the hair industry as soon as I left school. I left school quite early and knew exactly what I wanted to do, which was to be a hair stylist, so I enrolled in Servilles Academy straight away. I always knew I wanted to be in the fashion industry and have always had a passion for hair and make-up.”
What is the most rewarding part of your job?
“The people that you meet and the training that you receive through Servilles is definitely a huge highlight of being a stylist. The opportunities I have been given have made my job so fun and varied.”
What’s been your career highlight to date?
“Being able to watch and learn from some of Servilles’ top stylists, including Paul Serville, has been a huge highlight in my career so far. Working on photoshoots for leading magazines and fashion brands has also been an amazing experience.”
If you could only have one hair product, what would it be and why?
“I could never only have one hair product! But if I had to choose it would be the Kevin Murphy Doo Over! It’s a dry shampoo and a hairspray all in one which is amazing! I love spraying it through my roots and if I curl my hair, through my curls to help them hold and to add a bit of grit.”
What hair trend should we be looking out for and trying ourselves?
“The champagne and rose gold colours that are coming out right are a huge hit for me! I think they are going to be a huge trend. And if you are looking for a softer blonde is then definitely the way to go.”
For someone wanting to break into the industry, what would be your advice?
“Probably the best advice that I could give to anyone wanting to get into the industry is just to work really hard and to always put your hand up when opportunities come up. You won’t be noticed if you just sit in the background and don’t say anything. Select your training carefully, learn from the best and always push yourself as far as you can go.”
Does this sound like a career that would excite you or someone you know? Servilles Academy is enrolling now for Salon Support (Level 3) courses starting 8 and 29 March.
