Fashion Quarterly beauty editor Megan Bedford
NZ Fashion Week is here (again) so we thought this was the perfect time to introduce our team – they’ll be working hard behind the scenes, front row and outside the shows to bring you all the coverage from the week’s events.

What’s your role at Fashion Quarterly?
I write about the latest beauty trends and products for Fashion Quarterly, Miss FQ, Beautyheaven and other Bauer magazines.

What will your focus be at NZ Fashion Week?
Getting amongst the hustle and bustle backstage prior to the show. I talk to the teams on hair and makeup, as well as the designers, about the beauty trends and products about to be seen on the runways. Generally there’s plenty of intel and inspiration that will translate to our vanity counters and makeup bags in the months to come.

When did you attend your first NZFW and what’s your standout memory from it?
My first fashion week was in 2005 and I’ve been to all of them since, so the memories do tend to blur with what happened in which year, but I have very fond memories of the early Zambesi shows. At work recently we all crowded around a laptop to watch the brand’s 2005 St James Theatre show where Pluto played and the following year held in a giant boat dry dock. Those two, and the clothes which I still recall vividly, are some great memories!

What for you has been the ultimate NZFW show/collection?
I did so love Kate Sylvester’s Wolf collection from 2007; Kate always has a fantastic way of merging a creative or literary inspiration with a fashion collection and show presentation, it’s a brilliant yet subtly immersive experience. Lonely Hearts’ one themed around motocross – I think it was 2008 – was up my alley too.

What shows are you most looking forward to this year?
Zambesi in a library, new Juliette Hogan, Stolen Girlfriends Club at the Avondale racecourse – so much potential for being surprised and inspired.

What trends are you hoping to see in the AW20 collections?
The clothes: Offbeat colour, think acid green and lavender and mustard.
The beauty: Radiant and real skin, some striking yet refined eye and lip statements and maybe some glossy lips too.

What’s your key to making the week go smoothly?
Feeling incredibly lucky to be a part of it all. If you love fashion and beauty, there’s nothing like it.

What ensembles will we be seeing you in/what’s your NZFW style?
Jeans, blazers and boots.
