Sweet tooth- beware

What we eat has an amazing effect on wrinkles, according to UK-based dermatologist Dr Philippa Lowe. Lowe believe the effect sugar has on skin is underrated. “After the age of 35 the damage from eating too much sugar shows clearly on our face. It eneters thelood stream and attaches itself to the collagen and elastin protein, weakening it and changing its structure.” Lowe says this shows up on the skin’s surface as wrinkles and sagging, as well as loss of radiance. Short of avoiding sugar completely which virtually impossible if you like a glass of wine with dinner, Lowe says you can take certain measures to slow the effects by avoiding refined sugar (cakes, sweets and fizzy drinks) and upping the amount of anti-oxidant rich fruit and vegetables you eat.
