As senior brand manager at Moët Hennessy, Ali Campbell’s day-to-day is surrounded by the best of everything.
But rather than bathe exclusively in luxury brand names (or champagne for that matter), her beauty routine is a high-low mix of winning skincare and makeup she’s discovered over years of scouring beauty shelves.
FQ: What is your morning skincare routine?
Ali: In the morning I keep it super simple so I can get to work quickly. I wash my face in the shower using Benefit Refined Finish Facial Polish, before applying Benefit’s Triple Performing SP15 Facial Emulsion and eye serum, finally adding makeup. I try to wear light makeup during the week and reserve heavier makeup for the many champagne events I have on in the evening.
And at night?
I use Antipodes Juliet Skin-Brightening Gel Cleanser to remove my makeup, plus Nivea eye makeup remover with a cotton tip. Then I use Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2 which really helps remove dead skin and stubborn makeup. After that it’s Benefit’s Total Moisture Facial Cream which I let sink in for 15 minutes before applying Oil by Nude, which I massage in before going to bed — though there are certainly nights when I’m too exhausted and only the bare minimum gets done!
What’s your philosophy on beauty?
Being healthy on the inside is the most important, and results in healthy skin. Healthy skin is what makes someone look radiant, so I focus on good food, supplements and then a really simple but good skincare routine with the odd facial added in.
As you’ve gotten older, how has your attitude to your appearance changed?
I’m definitely more comfortable in my own skin now, and although I love to get dressed up, I equally love to have a fresh clean face, with just a good SPF before heading outside to take the dogs walking. The older I get, the more I focus on quality. Buying quality pieces produces a more polished look and they last longer.
What have you learnt about skin that you wish you had known when you were younger?
That I probably didn’t need as much makeup when I was younger. I once got told by a makeup artist to never worry about freckles, as they are a sign of youth!
What’s the latest trick you’ve learnt that’s changed up your beauty game?
Clinique Sweet Pots Sugar Scrub & Lip Balm is so good for winter chapped lips; you can exfoliate with the scrub and then add the balm to get really fresh, full lips. It’s a great way to prep lips before applying lipstick.
What’s the product you tell everyone about?
Stila Stay All Day Liquid Red Lipstick. It doesn’t move and stays bright red all day, even while eating and drinking.
Lipgloss, lipstick or lip balm?
Lipstick, primed by lip balm.
Foundation: blending with fingers, sponge or brush?
Fingers.
Nails: Standard polish or gel?
I get gel ahead of events and parties.
What’s your guilty splurge?
I have a subscription to BePure health supplements, so each month a new batch of the most amazing multivitamins and omega oils arrive on my doorstep.
Your best ever supermarket beauty find?
Goodness Every Evening Cream is really great value; it has a beautiful scent and feels really rich.
