She’s as body-positive as ever

It was five years ago that Lena Dunham first graced us with her presence in the TV show, Girls. So you’d be forgiven for thinking that the attention to her body image would have subsided by now – but it’s as relentless as ever.

This week, the 30-year-old actress, writer, producer and director opened up on The Ellen DeGeneres Show about the attention to her recent weightloss, defending her decision to get healthy.

Lena suffers from endometriosis, and as we know, that sh*t can be painful! As a result, she has made positive changes to her eating habits and begun practicing yoga to help combat her chronic pain.

Although she has lost weight, her views on body-positivity are still as strong as ever. Even though the body-shamers and internet trolls disagree…

“I had this experience of my body changing and suddenly I got all of these people being like ‘You’re a hypocrite. I thought you were body-positive. I thought you were a person who embraces bodies of all sizes,” she explained to Ellen DeGeneres on Wednesday.

Talk about feeling like there’s a double standard!

She just can’t win the media over. If she doesn’t try to lose some pounds, they consider her overweight, but if she does lose it, she’s conforming to societal standards.

What’s a girl to do? Be herself, of course.

The former Vogue cover star simply lost some weight when deciding to change her lifestyle – a choice she made in order to feel better.

Is it a crime for someone to like kale over fries? Not sure who would because fries are fab, but kale can be too, especially when massaged with lemon juice. You can thank us later.

Any sufferer will tell you that when you’re in chronic pain, you do all you can to be as comfortable as poss.

Lena went on to highlight that “anyone who was going to take time to say something negative about my weight on the internet, wasn’t someone I was particularly keen to impress anyway.”

Earlier this month, she posted the fitting gram, below, with a caption emphasizing that no one should be judged on any part of their body. Everyone’s beauty should be celebrated.

Thank you for this @Refinery29. I feel I’ve made it pretty clear over the years that I don’t give even the tiniest of shits what anyone else feels about my body. I’ve gone on red carpets in couture as a size 14. I’ve done sex scenes days after surgery, mottled with scars. I’ve accepted that my body is an ever changing organism, not a fixed entity- what goes up must come down and vice versa. I smile just as wide no matter my current size because I’m proud of what this body has seen and done and represented. Chronic illness sufferer. Body-shaming vigilante. Sexual assault survivor. Raging hottie. Just like all of YOU. Right now I’m struggling to control my endometriosis through a healthy diet and exercise. So my weight loss isn’t a triumph and it also isn’t some sign I’ve finally given in to the voices of trolls. Because my body belongs to ME–at every phase, in every iteration, and whatever I’m doing with it, I’m not handing in my feminist card to anyone. So thank you to my girl @ashleygraham for writing so gorgeously about this on @lennyletter (link in bio). Thank you to @tracyandersonmethod for teaching me that exercise has the power to counteract my pain and anxiety, and to @jennikonner for being my partner in FUCK IT. I refuse to celebrate these bullshit before-and-after pictures. Don’t we have infinitely more pressing news to attend to? So much love to all my web friends who demand that life be more than a daily weigh in, who know their merit has nothing to do with their size, who fight to be seen and heard and accepted. I love you- Lena
