“I think Asian models are really underrepresented”

When Chrissy Teigen speaks, the world listens. I mean, you can hardly argue with her; she’s pretty much always on point with her opinions and when she calls something out, she’s often right.

So when Chrissy – who is Thai, German and Norwegian – spoke to E! News about the lack of Asian models in the fashion industry, we naturally gave her comments our full attention.

“I want it to be a normal thing to be able to see Asian models, and I think Asian models are really underrepresented in the industry, especially on the runways or in magazines,” the 31-year-old model said.

“I think it’s really important to start embracing people…seeing them in roles that are not necessarily ‘That Asian Girl’ or ‘That Asian Boy’,” she added.

“I personally am not offended by cultural appropriation of any sort because I feel like it does pay homage, but at the same time there are a lot of beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, Asian women that could do the same thing.”

This isn’t the first time she’s been vocal about the issue either. Last year, she tweeted about the diversity (or lack thereof) of the Miss Teen USA pageant contestants.

The incredible thing about Chrissy Teigen is that she uses her influence as a celebrity to make a stand, especially for a cause that effects her and her fans, too.
