Emily Ratajkowski defends Melania Trump from ‘slut shaming’

The model is standing up for women everywhere.

Model Emily Ratajkowski has called out a New York Times reporter over “slut shaming” remarks he about First Lady Melania Trump.

Ratajkowski took to Twitter to hit out at the reporter who she overheard calling Trump “a hooker” at a New York Fashion Week event.

Sat next to a journalist from the NYT last night who told me "Melania is a hooker." Whatever your politics it's crucial to call this out for

She added: “Gender specific attacks are disgusting sexist bullshit.”

Ratajkowski is an ardent supporter of women’s rights, specifically those concerning body and sexuality.

Last year the 25-year-old made headlines over a controversial Instagram post with Kim Kardashian West after Kardashian had been caught up in a furore with journalist Piers Morgan over posting a nude selfie.

The avowed feminist has made it apparent that she believes in women’s rights across the board: if you’re going to stand up for one woman; you stand up for them all. Referring to the incident concerning the First Lady she says: “It’s crucial to call this out for what it is: slut shaming. I don’t care about her nudes or sexual history and no one should.”

Ratajkowski’s support for the First Lady didn’t go unnoticed, with Mrs Trump tweeting her thanks to the model.

Ratajkowski isn’t a Republican supporter, and has been vocal supporter in recent times of anti-Trump movements.

Meanwhile, New York Times features writer Jacob Bernstein has been reprimanded by the paper for his remarks which they deemed “completely inappropriate.”

Bernstein has since apologised on Twitter for making the comment.

“I want to take ownership of a mistake I made,” Bernstein said on Twitter. “Speaking at a party in what I thought was a personal conversation, I nevertheless made a stupid remark about the First Lady.”

He continued, “My editors have made it clear my behaviour was not in keeping with the standards of the Times, and I agree. My mistake, referring to unfounded rumors, shouldn’t reflect on anyone else and I apologize profusely.”
