Women making (radio)waves
Introducing five of the best female-focused podcasts every girl should listen to this year.
Podcast: Girlboss Radio.
What’s the deal: Nasty Gal founder and #Girlboss author Sophia Amoruso interviews female CEOs about their career trajectories. Best episode: The many fashion industry career women who feature have fascinating stories to tell, but for a surprisingly compelling listen, let Ellevest co-founder and former CEO of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management Sallie Krawcheck school you on the investment gender gap.
Podcast: Call Your Girlfriend.
What’s the deal: Dealing with long-distance friendship the modern way, Ann Friedman and Aminatou Sow have basically made their fortnightly phone calls public so we have something to tune in to when our own BFF is too busy. Best episode: The beauty of this podcast is that every episode contains gold, from Drake’s turtlenecks (Ep 35), to never-ending internships (Ep 53), to period politics (too many eps to mention).
Podcast: Gilmore Guys.
What’s the deal: Although not technically female-driven, the subject matter of this podcast (that is, an in-depth analysis of every. Single. Episode. Of. Gilmore. Girls. Ever.) makes it and its male hosts, Demi Adejuyigbe and Kevin Porter, more than worthy of a mention. Best episode: TBH, we’re saving this superlative for when Kelly Bishop comes on board as a guest, bc all hail, Emily Gilmore.
Podcast: Oh, Boy!
What’s the deal: Man Repeller staffer Jay Buim talks candidly with celebrities and other high-profile figures in the arts and tech industries. Best episode: As far as going back to where it all began, you can’t beat Episode 1’s interview with Man Repeller founder, Leandra Medine. Other guest-list highlights include It girl Alexa Chung, feminist powerhouse Gloria Steinem, Into the Gloss’s Emily Weiss and Vogue.com’s Sally Singer.
