Hint: She has always marched to the beat of her own drum.
Just when we think we couldn’t love Diane Keaton any more, she goes and styles herself on the cover of Vanity Fair‘s annual Hollywood issue.
Each year, the magazine produces a collector’s edition cover, which is always a major fashion event. Hollywood’s most talented and talked-about actresses are tapped to appear on the famous fold-out and are dressed in elaborate ball gowns and couture pieces from the biggest fashion houses.
But while the likes of Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Lawrence and Lupita Nyong’o opted for plunging necklines and floor-sweeping hems, Keaton was photographed in the outfit she arrived in: A Paul Harnden morning coat, Ralph Lauren neck scarf and Baron Hats bowler hat.
Vanity Fair‘s style director, Jessica Diehl, said Keaton called her beforehand to discuss fashion choices, with the two agreeing on a tuxedo. When Keaton arrived on the morning of the shoot, she rifled through the selection of menswear-inspired pieces pulled by Diehl and her team. “And she’s like, ‘Oh, I love this, I love this.’” But photographer Annie Leibovitz chipped in and said: “Yeah, I love that too, but you kind of already look great!”
Keaton’s appearance has already spurned a whole barrage of internet memes and reactions – our favourites:

5 OTHER TIMES DIANE KEATON WAS OUR SPIRIT ANIMAL:
Keaton’s sartorially-sophisticated turn in Annie Hall.
Accepting the Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of Woody Allen wearing a tuxedo suit and two-tone shoes.
Keaton talking tantric sex and “the kissing of the men” on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
Admitting she’s a Belieber (again, on Ellen.)
Playing beer pong with Jimmy Fallon (but substituting beer for her drink of choice: red wine on ice).
