Test & Trial: Does the ghd speed live up to the hype?

Could ghd’s new hair dryer be the answer to FQ digital producer Natalia Didovich’s blow-dry woes? Read on as she puts it to the test.

Feel like you never have the time (or patience) to give your hair the salon-worthy blow dry it deserves? Allow me to introduce you to the ghd Speed, an all-new device that promises to ensure ultra-fast drying time while also protecting hair from heat damage. But, does it actually live up to the hype?

Blow-drying my hair is, without question, my least favourite beauty task. Thanks to an extremely thick head of hair, what should be a quick post-shower routine often becomes a full production. Hair stylists dread my arrival, with salon visits sometimes requiring two hairdressers tag-teaming the styling process to get me out the door in time. So when ghd unveiled a hair dryer promising faster results without heat damage, I couldn’t resist trying it out.

The first thing I noticed? How incredibly light it is. I’m used to my arm giving up halfway through a blow-dry, so being able to style my hair without the usual arm workout was a welcome surprise. The device is equipped with four heat and four speed settings for easy styling, with a LED display and handy lock button to avoid any unwanted setting changes during use. Another win for the slightly lazy among us: a memory mode that remembers the last settings you used.

Equipped with innovative dual-airflow and cool touch technology, the dryer uses a precise blend of hot and cool air to ensure ultra-fast drying time while also protecting hair from heat damage. Yes, that means no more burning your scalp (or hand) when you’re trying to style your hair in a rush.

Now, for the speed. I was thrilled to whittle down my usual 40 minute blow dry routine to just under 15 minutes. Even better, the finish held up. My hair felt smooth, looked polished, and didn’t have that frazzled, overworked finish I’d normally expect from a rushed dry.

The verdict? The ghd speed has completely changed the game. What used to feel like a full-blown upper-body workout is now quick, easy, and (almost) enjoyable. Blow-drying no longer requires a pep talk or a free hour, it just slips into my routine. Consider me a convert!
