Sailor Brinkley Cook x Peter Alexander

She’s the daughter of supermodel Christie Brinkley, and now 16-year-old Sailor is making a name for herself in fashion.

Can you tell me about the campaign?

This was the Mother’s Day campaign for Peter Alexander and it was so fun! I shot with my mum, and the whole campaign was great because they have all these mothers of different ages shooting together with their daughters

The main idea was that at every age a mother is a mother, and they’re so caring and deserve a great day. You had all these pyjamas and great sweaters to give to your mother. I think it’s just a great campaign to show some love to all the mums out there.

What makes your relationship with your mum so special?

My mum and I have a really great bond. I’m her baby child, I’m her third. I’ve spent every day of my life with her so far. We live in the same house — the other kids have grown up and live in their own homes now.

My mum and I are both in the same business. My brother’s an actor and my sister is a singer. So my mum and I have this bond of working in the same field and having the same struggles and the same stories to tell. Her personality works with mine – I’m a little more edgy and funny, and she’s very classy and pristine. It’s very funny to see our relationship because we’re such different characters and we work together so well.

What advice has your mum given you about the modelling industry?

Her advice mostly is to stay positive. In this world of modelling it can get very intense for girls – you want to be the right size and you want to look a certain way. But if you have confidence in your body and you’re eating healthily and you’re working out and being yourself, then it really shows through the photos.

The people who hire you will like you more if you have this personality and this uniqueness that’s you. For me, her advice is just to be the best version of yourself and not try and be anyone else. Embrace your body and your personality and everything that makes you you.

What did you think of the Peter Alexander collection?

I love it! I think the pyjamas and the loungewear is so cosy. I would wear all of them at home. Usually when I’m modelling things I’m like “Who wears this?” But this was just so great and everything is so cute and yet so comfortable. I could even wear some stuff out without feeling weird. I’m definitely taking some stuff home to give to my mum for Mother’s Day, because she was just falling in love with everything.

What’s your ultimate beauty secret?

I don’t do much to make myself look a certain way. I think just overall health is my major beauty secret. If you take care of your skin, your hair, your body and your mental health too with things like yoga and meditation, I think your overall beauty radiates..

What do you like doing in your spare time?

I love photography, that’s my passion currently. It’s really great for my career as a model because I get to understand what photographers want and what they see and what they love. I can relate to that and bring that to both of my passions, which are modelling and photography. So that’s mostly what I do on my days off.

What advice would you give someone who’s keen to get into modelling?

I’d say just go for it! The worst thing that can happen is you get rejected, and that’s not even that bad. If they love you then that’s amazing, but if they don’t it’s not that bad. So I say just go for it and see what happens.

I hear you’ve been shooting in New York. Do you have any favourite spots?

I love Soho, Tribeca and the West Village. Soho’s great for shopping, Tribeca has great workout places and a lot of healthy restaurants and I have a lot of friends down there. My brother lives in the West Village. It’s such a beautiful place, right in the water. I love those areas; I’m not a big fan of the Upper East or Upper West Sides. I like going more downtown for the fun stuff.
