For the past month our social media accounts have been flooded with the latest collections from fashion weeks around the world While the runways will no doubt inform the trends we’ll be indulging in this time next year, we’re looking to the streets for a more immediate dose of sartorial inspiration.

From the daring to the demure, the micro-trends to the new classics, here are the five street style trends set to take the fashion crowd by storm this winter:

Fluffy Coats Galore

There’s no need to worry about whether or not we’ll be staying warm this winter, because fluffy coats (of the faux fur variety) were the statement jacket of choice from New York to Milan. Pair with a ruffled dress and lace stockings á la Alexa Chung for a ladylike take on the trend or pair with your favourite denim and a button-up shirt for a more everyday approach.

Double Cinched

Why wear one belt when you could wear two (or three) instead? Statement belts are back and the style set is opting for a more is more approach. From chunky belts with matching hardware worn low across the hips to a more mismatched approach of clashing colours and textures worn over boxy blazers, the styling options are endless.

Buttered Up

You heard it here first, our pastel hue of choice isn’t going anywhere this winter. Butter yellow was a constant presence throughout fashion month – from oversized coats to voluminous dresses. Our top styling tip? Take a leaf out of FQ Editor-in-Chief Sarah Murrary’s book and pair a butter yellow dress with rich plum accessories for a colour combo that’s almost good enough to eat.

All Tied Up

The office siren has hit the streets, but this season she’s all business. Shirts are buttoned up to the top, trousers are tailored, blazers are oversized, but it’s the neckties that are running the show. From clashing leopard prints to woollen varieties that perfectly coordinate with the rest of your outfit, it’s safe to say that we’ll be all tied up this winter.

Prim Meets Punk

Ladylike dressing is taking a walk on the wild side this season. Recreate the look by pairing your daintiest dress (lace detailing, voluminous sleeves and ruffles galore are a must) with chunky leather boots, oversized biker jackets or even a crystal embellished balaclava from Simone Rocha.
