They’ve been spotted on the faces of Rihanna, Kate Moss, Beyoncé, Solange and Lady Gaga and after amassing a cult following around the world, Le Specs are amplifying their approach to eyewear for 2015. Introducing Le Specs Luxe, a more sophisticated and refined collection of premium frames made from quality materials with a price point that won’t break the bank. Here, Le Specs designer Hamish Tame talks to FQ about the inspiration behind his new endeavour.
How did the concept of Le Specs Luxe come about?
The concept for Le Specs Luxe came from demand internationally. Our success with retailers including Opening Ceremony and Net-A-Porter showed that there was an opportunity for a more refined Le Specs collection that focused on premium quality and detail.
What was it about summer in the French Riviera that you found inspiring for this collection?
The beautiful thing about the French Riviera is how the lifestyle and the people are effortlessly fabulous. The idea behind the Le Specs Luxe collection is similar; it’s about chic looks that have the Le Specs twist, whilst still being easy to wear.
Did you have any muses while you were designing?
There wasn’t a specific muse in mind when designing; however Le Specs has built up quite a celebrity following over the years, so I do find myself thinking, “Would Beyoncé wear these on holidays in Portofino? Or imagine Rihanna on vacation in Barbados wearing this!”
What are the main factors that set Le Specs Luxe apart from the mainline range? Is it a particular aesthetic or quality of the materials used?
The focus for the Le Specs Luxe collection was increasing the quality of every element and refining every detail. We have used premium frame materials, optical-grade lenses, and the product is packaged with a new premium hard case and dust bag.
Which style is your favourite and why?
My favourite in the range is The Heiress. Technically and aesthetically, the style feels very exciting with the metal brow detailing. Personally my favourite pair to wear is Chateau, I haven’t taken them off!
Le Specs Luxe is available from April 27, with each frame priced at $119. Visit shop.lespecs.com or phone 0508 EYEWEAR for stockists.
