Bringing a suitably chic end to the spring/summer ’24 fashion month circuit, designers and esteemed fashion houses delivered us a medley of mesmerising looks this past week in the City of Lights. There was no shortage of sartorial drama, with strong trends continuing to emerge for the seasons ahead. As the pack down commences, we take a second look at some of our favourite shows from the week and break down some of the notable looks that you may have missed.
1. Acne Studios
Set against the backdrop of a shattered disco ball in L’Observatoire de Paris, the vibe was futuristic and industrial at Acne’s SS24 show, as models stormed the runway to the beat of an electronic soundtrack. Like many shows this season, denim and leather were major players, while asymmetrical skirts and drop waists also made an impression. Some looks leaned towards elegant and wearable, while others erred on weird and whimsical with impactful details such as fluttery eyelashes, distressed tops with feathery tufts peeking out, and exposed bras (à la Regina George in Mean Girls).
2. Chloé
Marking the end of creative director Gabrielle Hearst’s three year tenure at the label, Chloé’s SS24 show was a sophisticated soiree of extravagant silhouettes and bold cutouts. Seeking her inspiration for the collection from plants and flowers, Hearst placed a strong focus on ruffled frills, floral embroidery, puff sleeves and petal-shaped details. The colour palette was dominated by monochrome, with pops of marigold and red for good measure. All in all, it was a memorable exit for Hearst, whose legacy at the Maison is cemented by her efforts towards sustainability and climate action.
3. Cecilie Bahnsen
Staying true to the brand’s DNA, Cecilie Bahnsen’s SS24 show was a celebration of contemporary femininity, characterised by delightfully flouncy frills, bows, ruching and peplum. Black and white looks were juxtaposed with an assortment of bold red and pink hues, with each model donning a pair of black socks and black Asics – perfectly encapsulating the ‘Scandi cool girl’ aesthetic that so many of us strive to emulate thanks to street style culture and TikTok.
4. Givenchy
It seemed that fierce femininity was the main aesthetic objective at Givenchy’s SS24 show, designed by creative director Matthew M Williams. Models graced the runway in a number of seductive, semi-sheer gowns, with hints of androgyny provided through the oversized tailoring that featured in some of the looks. Accessories came in the form of opera gloves, pearl earrings, and knee-high hosiery – reminding us just how impactful a well-chosen adornment can be.
5. Rabanne
Marking a new chapter for the house of Rabanne (formerly known as Paco Rabanne), onlookers were unsure what to expect from creative director Julien Dossena’s debut collection. While it’s early days, what we can confirm is that the brand’s signature scintillating glamour is here to stay, as an awe-inspiring army of models donning gilded garments and gladiator sandals stormed the runway during the SS24 presentation.
