5 things we loved this week

Nothing brightens our winter blues like a selection of new season arrivals. Here’s what we're loving from Fluidform x Artipoppe, Glenmorangie, Deadly Ponies and more.

1. Carousel of colours

While we can always rely on Deadly Ponies to deliver us new chic bag and footwear drops year round, their latest SS23 collection ‘Carousel’ marks a new direction for the brand, inspired by the high-octane works of British artist Tracey Emin and the electrifying energy of a fairground. Drawing on an earthier palette of ivy, nougat and rockpool for the most part, the range is injected with a pop of vividness from its signature python print which the designers have remade into a zesty lime colorway. Among their existing styles, this season welcomes a new assortment of silhouettes, including the Mr Ferris Midi, a medium shoulder bag with a zip closure, and two fresh Bellboy bags: Mr Bellboy Midi, a mini portrait-style tote and; Mr Bellboy Mini, a compact crossbody bag. And if you happen to be heading away for Euro summer, their latest Gansu Slides or Pegasus Platforms would make suitable additions to your suitcase.

SS23 is available in-store and online now.

2. It’s 5 o’clock somewhere

There’s nothing like a good whisky served neat to act as the perfect 5pm pick-me-up during the frosty winter months. Heralded for their stunning array of single-malt offerings, Glenmorangie has just introduced a brand new limited-edition whisky to its range, ‘A Tale of the Forest’. Contained within a delightfully technicolour bottle designed by Thai artist Pomme Chan, this whisky is the first from the brand to be crafted from barley kilned with woodland botanicals. Best enjoyed neat or on the rocks, A Tale of the Forest has lush and herbaceous flavour, with dominant notes of peppermint, bitter orange, wood smoke and a zesty mouthfeel.

A Tale of the Forest is available now from specialist liquor stores.

3. Gorpcore chic

Here in Aotearoa, we know that the winter season brings with it an abundance of rainfall – which can literally put a damper on our sartorial choices. Introducing the Converse Counter Climate collection – the brand’s stylish solution to braving the unpredictable elements. Using the timeless silhouette of the Chuck Taylor All Stars, the collection has ushered in two new waterproof variations, the City Trek Waterproof High Top and the Lugged 2.0 Counter Climate High Top. Though both styles offer slightly different design features, each pair is created for maximum comfort, warmth and traction using their own unique waterproof textiles. Who doesn’t need a little gorpcore in their wardrobe?

4. A new chapter

Known for their selection of cool contemporary designers from around the world, Auckland-based boutique The Shelter has just opened its doors in a brand new location on Filleul Street in the heart of Dunedin city. With brands like Taylor, Rick Owens DRKSHDW and Issey Miyake 132 5. among their offerings, the space will be a haven for discerning shoppers to find new sartorial inspiration. As part of their opening, the store hosted a lively gathering of friends, creatives and members of the fashion sphere (including our editorial assistant Amberley) to view the space for the first time – accompanied by a smattering of hors d’oeuvres and prosecco, of course.

The Shelter is open now at 41 Filleul Street. Read more about the launch in Amberley’s 24-Hours in Dunedin wrap-up.

5. Go with the flow

In a coming together of two iconic female-led brands, Fluidform Pilates and baby-carrier brand Artipoppe have joined forces on a program aimed at helping women through their postpartum journeys. As a mother-of-three, this collaboration is particularly close to home for Fluidform founder Kirsten King, who understands the importance of reconnecting with yourself and your body after childbirth. “Having a baby doesn’t mean losing yourself; it means discovering a better version of you,” she says. For a limited time, all Artipoppe purchases will receive a complimentary version of The Fluidform New Mom Pilates Program – a 6-week online pilates program that features postnatal-friendly and specific workouts that prioritise realignment and restoration of the abdominal connection for new mothers.
