Roll out the “champagne carpet”, this year’s Academy Awards were alive with stunning looks

Oscars Best Dressed 2023. Florence Pugh and Cara Delevingne pose for a photo.

At long last, the 2023 awards season comes to an end with the highly anticipated 95th  Academy Awards. While the award ceremony itself delivers a reliably entertaining show (not to mention last year’s antics) – nothing generates buzz quite like the red carpet (or the “champagne carpet” that is replacing it this year!).

It’s no secret that the Oscars are a key event in the FQ team’s annual calendar, with last year’s look round up hailing from editor Sarah Murray. With nominees and style connoisseurs like Michelle Yeoh and Cate Blanchett in attendance, there’s no question that this year’s Oscars will deliver us an enviable assortment of fashion.

So sit back, relax, and grab a suitably bubbly tipple and revel in ten of this year’s best-dressed from the 2023 Academy Awards. Cin-cin!

Allison Williams in Giambattista Valli

Looking pretty in pink, actress Allison Williams was a sparkly standout on this year’s carpet in a floor-length embroidered gown courtesy of Giambattista Valli. Providing contrast to the slimline gown, the voluminous pastel shawl was the perfect accompaniment for this ensemble.

Fan BingBing in Tony Ward Couture

Brining the glitz and the drama was Chinese actress Fan BingBing, who turned heads in Lebanese-Italian designer, Tony Ward. Oozing old Hollywood glamour in this ‘20s-style tassel dress and accompanying green shawl, BingBing topped off her look with a tousled ‘do and statement red lip.

Cara Delevingne in Elie Saab

A vision in red, model and actress Cara Delevigne served vavavoom on the carpet. Donning a one-shoulder crimson number with a leg-split reminiscent of Angelina Jolie’s viral 2012 Oscars dress, Delevigne opted for a slick up ‘do and soft-glam makeup along with a delightfully glimmery jewellery set.

Michelle Yeoh in Dior

Keeping it classy and angelic in this all-white Dior gown, Oscar-nominee Michelle Yeoh has been serving up consistently striking looks all awards season. While the red carpet was undeniably oversaturated with monochrome this year, Yeoh’s gown set her apart from the pack thanks to its delicate feathered detailing.

Lady Gaga in Versace

Wearing fresh-off-the-runway couture which debuted only several days ago at Versace’s FW23 show, Lady Gaga looked ‘gothic chic’ in this daring corset-style dress. Although the slicked-back hair wouldn’t have been our first choice for this look, Gaga’s bold approach to fashion never goes unnoticed.

Cate Blanchett in Louis Vuitton

Exuding an effortless old Hollywood glamour, this custom top and skirt look was crafted by Nicolas Ghesquière from an archival Louis Vuitton collection using fully sustainable silk. Utilising delicate drapery, the blue and black combo makes Blanchett look radiant by complementing her colouring perfectly.

Harry Shum Jr. in Adeam

Actor Harry Shum Jr. exceeded our expectations on the menswear front looking every bit the dashing debonair in this Adeam suit. The actor wore slimline navy pants paired with a white blazer with matching navy trim and a bow tie. The undisputed pièce de résistance? The navy sash which playfully offset this look.

Paul Mescal in Gucci

Offering yet another refreshing take on suiting was first-time Oscar nominee Paul Mescal in head-to-toe Gucci. Mescal looked dapper in his contrasting suit – which included wide-leg black pants and a white shirt and cream blazer. Choosing to top off his look with a black bow tie and rose brooch for a pop of colour, the actor sat high up on our list of best dressed men on the red carpet. And don’t even get us started on him bringing his mum as his date!

Halle Bailey in Dolce & Gabbana

Star of the upcoming Little Mermaid remake, singer and actress Halle Bailey was an aqua dream in this tulle Dolce and Gabbana dress. The floor-sweeping strapless gown featured a structured bodice and waist with a full volume skirt that had the actress looking as much of a princess as the one she plays on screen.

Angela Bassett in Moschino

Having been nominated for ‘Best Actress in a Supporting Role’, Angela Bassett looked camera-ready in this bold grape-coloured Moschino dress. Featuring a structured waist and mermaid train, the purple number gave off seriously regal energy. Honourable mention to the actress’ Saturn-shaped bag and silver snake necklace.
