Why these mirrors are challenging mindsets and encouraging positive self-talk

We know all-too-well the feeling of putting ourselves down instead of practising self-compassion. A new campaign by local wellness brand BraveFace aims to challenge our self-perceptions when looking in the mirror, encouraging us to replace negative thoughts with positive affirmations.

“The number of Kiwis struggling with stress, sleep, anxiety and their mental health has increased dramatically in the past couple of years,” says BraveFace founder Katherine Douglas.

BraveFace’s strategically placed mirrors in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch bear a powerful message to remind passers-by that despite their struggles, they’re strong, brave, and full of potential.

As part of this unique campaign, BraveFace will also donate $10,000 to the Sir John Kirwan Foundation’s ‘Mitey’ initiative, which supports schools in delivering an evidence-based approach to mental health education for Years 1-8. BraveFace will donate a further $10 on behalf of anyone who takes a selfie at one of their mirror locations. 

“Sometimes our fears and anxieties can hold us back, but at BraveFace, we believe that despite our struggles, we are all full of potential, and it’s time to live it,” says Douglas.

The BraveFace range was designed to provide people with tools to overcome unwanted feelings. It consists of three products — the CoolHead Day Spray to aid calm during times of stress, HeadRest Night Drops to quiet racing thoughts, and Live Calm Daily Capsules to manage stress and promote calm.
