Indigenous Australian artist Naomi Hobson has collaborated with MECCA to produce a series of exquisite art.

Naomi Hobson

Vivid colours and abstract brushstrokes grace MECCA’s limited-edition holiday packaging for 2021, painted by Southern Kaantju/Umpila woman Naomi Hobson.

Skilled in painting, ceramics, and photography, Hobson’s captivating use of bright hues represents an array of places, stories, and emotions. The inspiration behind her artwork is the vast traditional lands of her ancestors and her culture.

Hobson resides in Coen, Queensland, on the banks of the riverbed where her grandparents were born. “My Aboriginality is what grounds me”, says Hobson. “Through art I get to freely express all of this and I can share my freedoms in a contemporary way. Working with MECCA has given more depth to my voice, I am representing my life in this collaboration. I see my rivers, my grasslands, and the characters of my people. Through the brushstrokes I can see my Country.”

And Hobson’s stunning abstract compositions will undoubtedly become a sought-after collector’s item for beauty lovers. Her art is featured on twelve different variations of MECCA’s luxury gift boxes and bags, throughout MECCA’s signature line collection, and splashed across 100 store windows in New Zealand and Australia. Hobson’s art will also be displayed at the National Gallery of Victoria, Federation Square, from late 2021.
