IN PARTNERSHIP WITH MERZ AESTHETICS
It’s no secret that fine lines and wrinkles begin to appear thanks to various lifestyle and genetic factors as we age. Over time, a once plump and line-free complexion can start to lose volume and elasticity.
Plus, there’s the fact that the constant movement of our complexion’s underlying muscles – when we smile, laugh and frown – can cause dynamic lines to appear. While using effective skincare, taking extra care in the sun and adopting other healthy lifestyle habits can help slow down the ageing process – sometimes even the most extensive beauty routines need a little extra help.
Given the results that cosmetic injectables can achieve, it’s no surprise that anti-wrinkle treatments have become part of beauty routines for many. While there are various options available, if you’re looking to push pause on the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, it is good to be aware that all available options are effective but also have some differences in terms of how they are made and the resulting level of protein content. According to therapeutic research, the dose, frequency of treatment and level of protein load may over time impact the efficacy and longevity of your injectable anti-wrinkle treatment due to the risk of formation of antibodies against the treatment.
If you’re contemplating anti-wrinkle injectables for the first time to enhance skin youthfulness, or you’re willing to learn more about the different options, here’s everything you need to know about Xeomin.
What is Xeomin and how does it work?
Xeomin is an injectable form of botulinum toxin used to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Xeomin goes through additional purification steps to remove unnecessary complexing proteins during the manufacturing process. What this means is that Xeomin only contains the active part of botulinum toxin.
Like all products containing botulinum toxin, Xeomin works by blocking nerve impulses in the injected muscles. Muscles become relaxed, and the reduction in muscle activity helps to improve and smooth lines and wrinkles. The result is a natural, more refreshed-looking appearance.
In New Zealand Xeomin is used to help improve the look of upper facial lines, including frown lines between the eyebrows, crow’s feet (wrinkles at the side of the eyes) and horizontal forehead lines.
How long does Xeomin last for and how effective is it?
As with any injectable, the results and longevity of Xeomin will vary from person to person. However, most can expect the results to last for around four months after the initial treatment.
How long does a treatment session take?
A Xeomin treatment takes around 20 minutes at your local dermatology or cosmetic clinic – which means you can even schedule an appointment over your lunch break.
Can I return to usual activities following a treatment session?
Following your Xeomin treatment, you can resume most everyday activities immediately. However, it is recommended that strenuous exercise, sun exposure, alcohol consumption and applying heat to the treated area are avoided in the 24 hours following a treatment session.
*Xeomin contains zero complexing proteins.
