Get the scoop on how to re-create the hair look from FQ’s NZFW show using Joico products.
Runway beauty looks can be theatrical and extreme, or they can just have really pretty, covetable hair.
It was the latter on the agenda for lead hair artist Sara Allsop and the team from Joico working behind the scenes for Fashion Quarterly’s ‘The Edit’ fashion show at New Zealand Fashion Week.
The brief was big, bold, luxe 70s inspired waves, and boy did they deliver.
Here’s how Sara and the team created the hair look in this video and step-by-step instructions below:
Step one: Prep damp hair by misting Joico Body Luxe Root Lift Volumizing Foam into the hair’s roots all over the head, paying special attention to the hair’s parting – the starting point for a good lift. Blow dry hair loosely with a round brush to dry.
Step two: Take medium-sized sections of hair (not too big, not too small for a bouncy do!) mist lightly with Joico Humidity Blocker Finishing Spray before wrapping around a medium straight-barrel tong or using a straightening iron in a curling motion. Release and keep holding the curl, pin against the head until the curl is completely cool (20 mins or more).
Step three: Mist once more lightly with Joico Humidity Blocker – its like an invisible rain coat for your locks! – before removing pins and shaking your head loosely. Take a dense bristle brush and run through curls to separate.
Step four: Finish with the lightest touch of Joico JoiMist Medium Styling & Finishing Spray for beautiful healthy shine with a touch of holding power. It’ll retain bounce and flexibility while still keeping your curls in place while nixing frizz and flyaways.
Step five: Voila! Now just make sure you swish your head around all day to make the most of those gorgeous curly locks!
