The names Rumi and Sir Carter explained
After months of speculations since Beyoncé and Jay Z’s twins, Rumi and Sir Carter were born in June, the rumours about the meaning behind the monikers can finally be laid to rest after their rapper daddy shared the couple’s thoughts behind the unique names last week.
“Rumi is our favorite poet, so that was for our daughter,” he said on Friday’s Rap Radar podcast on Tidal. Rumi was a Persian poet from the 13th-century who has gained popularity in modern America.
But the reasoning behind Rumi wasn’t surprising for fans as Beyoncé’s mum, Tina Knowles, alluded to the baby name background when she posted this Instagram of a Rumi poem one month after the twins were born.
Alike like his sister, the thinking behind their son’s name wasn’t quite so… well, cultured. “Sir was like, man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that,” Jay-Z explained. “He just came out, like, ‘Sir.'”
So now we know the meaning of the famous twins’ perfectly regal names, and while you unique, seem decidedly simple in comparison to big sis, Blue Ivy, don’t you think?
