There's a lot to take on board at fashion week, but here are a few details that may have slipped under the radar which are deserving of a second take

As we reach the end of NZFW: Kahuria’s industry-facing shows, our editors are retiring their heels and reminiscing over everything they’ve seen, loved, and learned over the past three days. With both emerging and established designers having graced the runways this week, the Viaduct Events Centre has played host to a new chapter in fashion week’s prestigious history. If you’ve been attending the shows yourself or following the action closely on social media, it’s likely that you’re already across the week’s most memorable moments. But if you aren’t – fear not – the FQ team has seen it all.

1. Kathryn Wilson celebrated 20 years

Kathryn Wilson has hosted a number of captivating, high-energy shows over the years, both at fashion week and at some of Tāmaki Makaurau’s biggest hot spots. This year marked 20 years in business for the industry veteran, which Wilson honoured by orchestrating one of her most exuberant shows to date. Models donned brightly-coloured bob-style wigs, glittery makeup and frilly outfits to debut the shoe designer’s newest creations, which included an extensive range of heels, boots, flats and mules. At the end of the show, Wilson took us on a trip down memory lane by projecting imagery from her design journey over the last twenty years against the runway backdrop.

2. Rory William Docherty’s solo debut

It’s no secret that we love a bit of Rory William Docherty here at FQ (see our profile on him here if you haven’t already) but this NZFW marked his first-ever solo show. Models graced the runway to ’80s tunes such as Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat in what was a relaxed, romantic showcase of the designer’s latest collection. Accompanying his classic utilitarian designs such as structural tailoring, artful pleats and aviation-style hats, were softer elements including furs, flowy silk prints and dried flowers styled in some of the model’s pant pockets. It was undoubtedly a standout show of the week.

3. Jess Molina walked for Jockey

Writer, content creator, contributor and friend to FQ Jess Molina has been involved in NZFW: Kahuria in more ways than one. Aside from being one of this year’s ambassadors, Molina made a delightfully unexpected appearance at the Jockey show, storming the runway alongside some of the country’s most recognisable figures. The show was fun, upbeat and – above all – entertaining.

Allpress' rose-infused oat milk.

4. Allpress had rose-infused oat milk

With early starts and after parties ’til late, coffee was essential for our editors on-site this week. As one of fashion week’s official supporters, Allpress had multiple setups across the venue, including a complimentary coffee station on the second floor. Though we certainly got our fill of barista-made coffee, the complimentary ‘pour yourself’ coffee station kept us going back repeatedly for its rose-infused oat milk. As loyal oat milk drinkers we were naturally enticed, and after trying the combination of the brand’s smooth brewed coffee topped off with a splash of Allpress’ specially-made milk, we’re now just a little obsessed.

5. Discounted NZFW tickets for the general public

Keen to get your fashion fill but haven’t had a chance to make it in yet? There’s still two days left of fashion week where you can get amongst an array of runway shows and designer talks by some of the industry’s finest. To sweeten the deal, NZFW is offering $10 off all general admission and student tickets for the remainder of the week, so you can scope out the style without breaking the bank. Simply head to their website, select your show of choice, and enter OFFER10 at checkout.
