1. The games have begun (fashion week edition)
Fashion month has arrived, and New York wasted no time setting the tone. Streets outside the shows were thick with colour blocking, zebra print at every turn, fringing in motion and brooches adding the finishing touch to standout looks. Statement bags stole their fair share of attention too, alongside sunglasses large enough to double as armour. Stay tuned at FQ as we report on what we’ve seen and loved as fashion month makes its way around the major fashion capitals.
2. Cue the colour
Michael Hill’s new capsule, The Cocktail Edit, leans into colour with statement rings and gold pendants shaped like an Aperol Spritz and a Martini. Chief Product Officer Toni Zehrer calls it “one of the most playful moments in the brand’s history,” with pieces that “feel joyful and a little unexpected.” It opens a broader Colour Collection push, 29 new pieces set with emerald, sapphire, peridot, citrine and tourmaline, built for stacking from lunch to Saturday night.

3. Seen in a new light
Taika Waititi shoots by headlight for Spotlight, a free photography exhibition opening in Ponsonby from 17 to 20 September. Working entirely in the glow of the Zeekr 7X, Waititi’s seven images each depict a scene emerging from darkness into light, a visual take on how ideas first appear, sudden and unformed. Dane Fisher, Group General Manager of NordEast, Zeekr’s New Zealand distributor, says the brand’s community exists in a “Lane of One, Kiwi who define their own path,” and that Waititi “absolutely epitomises this ethos,” with a perspective that is “unmistakably his.”
When: 17–20 September
Where: Studio 230, Ponsonby, Auckland
4. Walk this way
Take a stroll through Wellington’s fashion history with Walk the Walk, led by NZ Fashion Museum founder Doris de Pont through Pōneke’s streets and alleyways on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September, starting at 1pm from Te Aro Park. Over 90 minutes, trace the capital’s style story, from the pā harakeke that shaped Aotearoa’s earliest textiles to grand department stores, artisan handcrafts and the fearless style of Carmen Rupe. Just 20 spots per date, and $25 a ticket, you won’t want to miss this.
5. Save the date
Commercial Bay’s Solstice returns 24 to 27 September with two open-air runway shows in the ground-floor laneway, curated by Sammy Salsa and featuring Zambesi, Juliette Hogan and Oroton. Shows run 8pm Thursday 24 and 1pm Saturday 26, free to watch from Levels One and Two, with P Money DJing live both nights.
