5 things we loved this week

Why force a gear shift when you can cruise in neutral? This week's brands make a soothing case for muted hues inspired by nature.

1. In the mood

Transitional seasons are perhaps the most demanding on our wardrobes, requiring each piece to be versatile, tactile, and adaptable to inclement temperatures. Keeping our daily outfit formula simple and unfussy is SOPHIE’s Spring-to-Summer Collection, designed by founder Belinda Cannon. Twelve timeless new pieces emphasise comfort with elasticated waists and breathable fabrics realised in neutral colourways including Hay, Mist, Graphite and Cocoa. Whether you’re in the market for a maxi skirt, oversized shirt, or tailored vest, SOPHIE has set the benchmark in elevated essentials.

2. LA cool

When we’re not suiting up in tailored pieces fit for formal meetings, we’re turning down into soft cotton separates with boxy fits and boyish charm. And few brands do it better than Commonplace Essentials. While we wait with baited breath for their summer capsule of sports-wear inspired pieces to drop, they’ve whet our appetite with the arrival of two Luv AJ x Commonplace Essentials anklet designs. This adorable addition will complete any off-duty look as we descend into summer, and also makes for an amazing holiday season gift. LA-based jewellery brand Luv Aj has been sighted on the likes of Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber, and Kylie and Kendall Jenner and, when partnered with your casual slide of choice, is the epitome of It-girl cool.

3. Interior motives

In just two years, BAYA has transformed New Zealand living spaces with its elegant soft furnishings, including rugs, throws, and cushions. Their incoming Summer 24-25 collection sees them return to a foundation of simplicity and pared back design. Underpinning the range are four key elements: texture, fibre, and craftsmanship—all unified by a palette of muted and neutral tones including fenugreek and biscuit. Expect new indoor and outdoor styles, lifting inspiration from traditional Japanese Tatami mat design, referencing their tight ribbed weave and abstract linear detailing. Designed in Auckland, each piece is designed for lasting comfort and style.

4. Second helpings

Fittingly launched during Secondhand September, Remi is a new re-loved fashion marketplace founded by Teegan Garton, designed to transform how New Zealanders buy, sell, and repurpose clothing. Teegan, a single mum and former Friday Muse, focused on making Remi user-friendly and search-efficient, catering to busy, eco-conscious individuals. The platform emphasises circularity, affordability, and community engagement, offering a seamless shopping experience with social features. Endorsed by fashion leaders Jessie Kirk, Josh Young, and Abby Plested, Remi supports local designers and small businesses while promoting sustainable fashion.

5. Up and running

Lorna Jane has partnered with parkrun for a two-year collaboration to promote fitness and community engagement. This year, they are celebrating Active Nation Day on September 28th with more than 10 free 5k runs across New Zealand and Australia. The event aims to raise $100,000 for Women’s Community Shelters, with Lorna Jane donating $1 for every participant. The runs will feature coffee vans, food trucks, spot prizes, and a chance to win a $1,000 Lorna Jane wardrobe. With exciting events lined up in Auckland and Christchurch, participants can expect a fun-filled day of fitness, camaraderie, and giving back.
